I have always wanted a side by side shotgun but can't really afford most of the nicer ones. I just bought a Stevens model 311 that was made in the 70's but is in excellent condition. Anybody know anything about these particular shotguns? Any feedback would be appeciated.

At one time I owned a Stevens 311 in 20 gauge with 28 inch barrels. I bought it new in mid 70's from J.C. Penney of all places.

I used it to hunt quail but mainly just to have a double barrel shotgun. It was a well made gun with plain hardwood stock-nothing fancy, but a good gun for the price.

I had the barrels cut to 20 inches and used it for a house gun until it was stolen from under my bed in December 1981.

It had double triggers and you could fire both barrels at the same time and with the short barrels and no. 6 shot, it did a job on milk jugs!

I often wish I still had it and had not had the barrels cut off.

Enjoy your new gun. It should do you a good job.

I have an old Stevens model 94h singleshot 20gauge.
unfortunately its youth size and the stock is too short for me to aim :-P

do you know what the chokes are, should be on the barrels, probably under the forearm. depends on what you are going to use it for, most of them came choked mod.-full, if those are too tight of chokes for you, you can have a gunsmith hone them to maybe imp.-mod. would be pretty good for upland birds. if you wanted screw-in chokes, thats going to run you about $350. you get four chokes. good find, I think you will like it.

hold on Newt, we got a runaway

I used to own a 311 myself. The best thing about the 311 is the barrels are thick enough they can be honed and taped for invector chocks.

The chokes are modified and full and I think I am going to have the barrels threaded for choke tubes, it shoots good I like it so far. Thanks for the feedback.
