Looks like Bass Pro has a few on sale. Anyone have any experience with RedHeads or Danner or even the ones at Academy?

No doubt Danners..!!!I have some bass pro ones too just feel a lot safer with the Danners 18 inches and they are 10 times more comfy....I know they are 100 more but can you really put a price in a snake bite..?

I have Danners as well. Comfortable? Yes, as far as snakeboots go, but unless they have changed the sole, be very careful around hard surfaces (as in metal truck beds in particular) during wet weather. You can bust your butt in a New York minute! I've worn workboots and shoes all my working life, and there are better sole materials out there.

They have a pair of Danner's for $139 ($100 off) in one of their fliers. Not sure which ones they are.

I got a pair from Academy, no problems with them. Think they cost me around $100.

I had a pair of the Redhead's (zipper) for 5-6 years (or more) and wore them a lot! Very comfortable. I didn't buy them for the snake boot part, I wanted a tall boot and that was all I could find at the time that was affordable. The biggest thing I did't like about them was the thinsulate lining - too hot. I wanted the zipper instead of lace up just for ease of getting on/off.
I have a pair of Danner Pronghorn's they aren't snake boots, but they are definitely top notch.

Chippewas have always worked great for me. Hard to beat them in South Texas and are durable when used 365 days per year. I have pair of Foreverlast right now that are pretty good also and lightweight if you do a lot of walking.

I have some zippered Redheads. For guests, I have a couple pair of Snake Guardz in my hunting trailer. They are pretty effective and one size fits most.

x3!I have owned Rocky snake boots and Browning snake boots but they were junk compared to my Chippewas. IMO Danner upland boots are great but their snake Boots weren't nearly as comfy as the Chippewas when I tried them on. I'm on my second pair and thinking about upgrading to the all leather zip ups.

I've got zip up Chippewas and they are great. They run about 1/4 to 1/2 larger than what they say. Better for my flat feet than the Danners. I assume they'll stop a snake bite........? The only problem I have with snake boots is they protect you against small to medium size snakes. An 8' rattler will be biting higher than 17 or 18" if he is coiled.

I use mine for protection against thorns and brush
You can chain me up and drag me down a gravel road, nothing left of me but my shins and feet would be in great shape

My readhead zip ups just pooped out on the youth turkey hunt last weekend. Rubber sole peeled off of one, and the insoles were breaking down and coming apart. I had em since about 2007, but didn't use them that often. They were definitely not hiking boots. Got the Danner lace-ups on sale at BPS yesterday ($139). Surprisingly, they were much easier to get on and off than the zip ups, which for me seemed to have a bottle neck at the ankle. More comfortable too (at least in the store). Also looked at Chippewas, which had been recommended to me, but all they had was brown leather, and mine are mainly turkey hunting boots, so I wanted some camo break-up.

I had the Academy brand ones for 2 years and they were comftorable but fell apart.
Last year I found some slip on Chippewas on Amazon for $125.00. They take some breaking in but now are extreamly comftorable and think I'll get many years out of them.

I tried the Cabelas rubber snake boots this weekend. They aren't as comfortable as my Mucks but worked fine. Rubber boots are an absolute must for east TX when it is this wet.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Danner makes a lot of Cabelas brand boots if you can catch one of their pairs on sale. Due to height constraints, I wear chaps.

What brand of chaps do yall wear?
Also will regular leather steel toes and chaps work or is it better to get snake boots and chaps?
Thanks for all the information.

I would play the odds. Since theres not that many snake bites in Texas period, (lets swell the number of bitten and say 100 bites and there is roughly 650000 hunters) I would just where regular boots or shoes and not have the locals make fun of me. unfortunately snake boots look dumb.
