The next morning my wife and I split up so I could hunt one of the single ladder stands on the property. I had seen this big white fallow buck on my last trip here, and he was the best trophy that I had passed on my last trip. Now I had driven 1000 miles each way to get here and could not get closer than 150 yards from him. This morning would not be eventful for me. I had a group of 10 sika does come in and nothing else. My wife saw a group of 25 pigs come in, but could not get a shot off. She was covered up in fallow, sika, whitetail, aoudad yearlings, and rams.

We got out of the blind and decided to make a stalk on the rams. There was a beautiful corsican in the group and my wife wanted to try for him. We got within range easy but that was the easy part. My wife's shot was a little forward and high. The arrows pentration was not good and as the ram ran straight into the thickest woods on the ranch I wondered if we would find him.

We looked for an hour with no luck. We came back out into the field and saw that he had come back out. We got back up on him and she made her second shot count. It was a perfect heart shot and the ram was dead in 20 yards.

This ram was probably th prettiest corsican I have seen. His coated was extremly thick and beautiful. His horns were nice as well, around 26-27 inches. This was her first exotic and she was stoked.

During our mid day time I built a blind where I had seen the fallow deer the evening before. Hopefully they would follow their pattern again and I would get a shot within 50 yards or so.

I got back to the ranch early to get a little long distance practice in and was consistently shooting up to 70 yards. I felt confident if the white fallow buck would be back in the field and I could take him out to 70 yards. However, at the last minute I changed my mind. I decided I would hunt the far left ladder stand on the edge of the property. The fallow had not been there the entire week but the this was appently the only stand to get a shot at an aoudad. I would take my last afternoon and try to get and aoudad and hopefully hunt the morning at my ground blind for the big fallow. As we drove into the stand the Aoudad were already out at the feeder. They bolted and I hoped they would come back later, although I have to admit I was skeptical.

With 25 minutes of light left on my last evening I had not seen as much as a squirell, I questioned my decision and had come to grips that I may not be taking another trophy home... especially the big fallow I had made the trip for.

About 5 minutes later I noticed a white body step out below me at about 60 yards. It was him, the big fallow, my heart began to beat uncontrollably. He was all alone, and began to walk directly away from me. He got to about 125 yards and I said a quick prayer for him to turn my way. Suddenly he turned and made a direct march toward my stand. I made up my mind that I would not wait for him to come into the feeder, because I had not seen him come to a feeder yet. He walked by at 38 yards and I came to full draw. I did a grunt to stop him but he kept walking. I put my 40 yard pin where it needed to be and lead him a little bit. At the shot the super skiddish deer dropped nearly 10 inches and lurched forward....

congrats to your wife on the corsican. It was a good pretty ram, my wife liked him the best as well.

Let's hear the rest of the story.

The shot was right on its mark, however with the buck dropping and lurching forward it hit about 5 inches high and 5 inches back. I got about 9 inches of penetration. I knew the shot was lethal and may have gotten lungs. The deer took off and I could see a large blood spot as he left view. He made about a 150 yard circle and came running behind the stand. I heard a crash and then nothing. After checking the ground I found my arrow about 100 yards away. We gave him an hour and a half and took up the trail after dark. It took about 20 minutes but we found him stone dead only 50 yards from the stand. This was a beautiful buck. He had tons of character, 2 points broken off, and was hard earned. I know there have been many hunters after him and feel blessed to get him over 6 months since my first encounter.

Was a great weekend at 3 FB. Tons of stuff hit the ground. Wendy and I each shot red hinds. Hers was huge and mine was still pretty nice. My freezer is going to be packed full of red deer. I am already booked to go back in September and possibly June.

Thanks guys. I took an image from video I had from my September trip. You can see the rack before the broken points.

Yes they do. I have talked to him specifically about it. Just no guns.

Sounds like a plan!! I'd be content with just slinging an arrow or two at a few pigs.
