An assault rifle is a select fire weapon.

Eugene Stoner worked for Armalite when he designed the M16 and they were the company that first built them but that by no means means Armalite is at the top of the food change now days. Not so sure they ever were, JMO. Something that would be really cool and IMO is well worth the money is to start with a Mega Machine MA Ten match set. Use quality parts and don't skimp to save money and you'll have a fine weapon !

An assault rifle is a select fire weapon. Not too sure that is 100% true. I think the term assault rifle came from a German word that stood for storming the castle or something like that. I might be off but I think it was Hitler that came up with the term. There is a list somewhere out on the world wide web that gives the list of things that it takes to be considered an "assault rifle" but don't have that handy at the moment. If your saying only rifles that are capable of full auto are considered or classified as "assault rifles" I would strongly have to disagree.

By the way, if an M14 SOCOM could be sent to fat camp to loose weight that would be my choice !!

Stg 44 or sturmgewehr 44 it means storm rifle and yes it was select fire, it was the first assault rifle An assault rifle is a select fire weapon. Not too sure that is 100% true. I was thinking it came from a German word. Did Hitler name the term and do you have any more info on all that ? I can't remember where I heard that. Years and years ago I got the opportunity to meet Eugene Stoner in Alabama I think it was and man that guy had more info about that kind of stuff than I could take in or even comprehend !

The sturm was the design the AK-47 was inspired by. Things probably would've been a lot different in WW2 if it didn't come out so late.

Who cares if your rifle "makes your head spin". Accuracy is what matters. With all the BS overload on AR's less really is more. My latest 5.56 has a tiny micro sight on it and nothing more. People have commented in how nice it still looks. Just get a Spikes or Daniel Defense with a free float tube and call it a day.

As others have said assault rifles are select fire. An AR15 is just a semiauto rifle. Media and gun grabbers refer to AR15's as assault rifles though. Further reading here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault_rifleEDIT: For wow factor I would get a SCAR. They are awesome weapons, about to get a SCAR H myself (only 7.9 pounds for 308 that will will dominate all the new flavor of the month calibers).

As others have said, buy good stuff to start with and then do what you want with it. To much stuff just gets in the way !

FN SCAR maybe? I've always had a thing for the ACR. http://www.bushmaster.com/acr/#/introPerhaps a HK G36? I think you guys missed his point. He doesn't want tacticrap to hang on a rifle, he wants something *other* than an AR-15. I think you should go ahead and get a HK PSG-1. I suppose it *could* be an assault rifle.....but it'll definitely be accurate. LOL

Any ideas ????????? My Nephew has one like that but it weighs 14 pounds. A couple of years ago, he set it up across the hood of my Jeep and let 5 guys shoot it one time each at a 100 yard target. None of the five had ever shot an AR platform rifle. Five shots. Five shooters. A pattern you could cover with a nickel. It started out as an LR-308 but I don't know what you'd call it now.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

wanna be different, get a HK-91. Not as much of them around. or a Styer AUG
speaking of the STG-44. GSG is starting to make a 22LR replica of them.

For something different, I would say HK, FN SCAR, or Bushmaster ACR. Those are all $2k+ rifles though.
