I sent my last one off to the happy hunting grounds a couple months back. That was number 2 for me. My first one bit the dust about 10 years ago from a very stout pre-charged pneumatic air rifle of all things. Unbeknownst to me, the barrel had taken a hit to the suppressor and bent the weak spot at the back of the thread relief just a tiny bit where the suppressor screwed on. Enough to cause a .22 pellet to clip some baffles on the way through just enough to drop right into the corner of my display screen 25 yds away. eek2

Last one was pure stupidity - no tripod, and had the thing balancing on top of a trash can tipped at a downward angle to line up with a dirt pile backstop. No rods or sky screens to help with line up and i just flat misjudged the hold over needed with a Kahr CM9 to get above the dang sensors. There went another hundred bucks down the drain. bang

I'm thinking of trying a chrony alpha master with the remote tethered display and trying to figure out some sort of an angled deflector to set it in that would set level with the top of the sensors and be able to divert a killing shot downward just enought to clear the bottom of the chrony. Might take out a leg on a $20 tripod, but i could go through 5 or 6 of those before equaling the cost of another new chrony.

Anyone ever seen or heard of any such contraptions? Thought of using some thick Lexan or maybe just some steel plate. Might need another baffle or chute underneath to level off any rebounds and send them on into the backstop rather than angling on down into the ground for a possible airborn ricochet. A 4 legged tripod could solve hitting the legs, but then i guess it wouldn't really be a tripod anymore and i've never seen one with 4 legs anyhow.
Betcha that young feller over to Gibson Outpost range in Mesquite would just come plumb unchained if a person showed up over there with such a getup! coach flame
bolt

I know some people who hand loaded all their life and never run the first round over a chrono and produced some unbelievably accurate loads. But once i got to using one I find it hard to be happy with not knowing what my velocities are running - especially when loading some new-to-me componant or cartridge. i'll never be able to aford any sort of pressure testing equipment, but knowing my velocities tells me so much more about whats happening that it's hard to not have one available. Hey, now there's a thought... anyone got one i can borrow!?? I promise not to shoot it roflmao

Have seen one centered with a 30-06, not mine though, and I was not the shooter.

I did kill one when the wind blew it over and busted the housing.

Sure Jon I will let your borrow one. There will be a security deposit of $200 cheers

When I was 18 I bought a shooting Chrony. Before I ever got to use it my Dad put an arrow through it on his second shot. I let him keep it.

I have had two of mine killed, first one my buddy shot while working up 44Spl loads, the second one I got with my AR. Dang the scope sets up high on these AR's.

I killed one by telling a 10yo to grab it off the bench without making sure it happened. They aren't very water friendly

I havn't killed one YET! I take my time when setting it up since I've read and heard of them getting shot.

Yesterday I had a buddy pull the bolt and sight down the barrel while I was adjusting the chrono. I told him to back the magnification all the way down and check it through the scope also. Once he was looking through the scope I looked through the objective at him. His head jumped up from the rifle and he said "whoa, not cool!" Then realized what I just did to him and we both got a good laugh out of it.

Again, the bolt was out of the rifle. No way does anyone ever get in front of a rifle other wise.

Get your gun set up like you want it then use a cheap laser boresighter. Get on the down range side of the Chrono with a piece of paper or something else and check alignment!

I killed a B&C chronograph about 15 years ago. I'd post the photos, but I seem to be unable to locate them.

Winged a Chrony master with a 30-06 acclerator sabot. First time to use it, and sabot put a pretty good dent in front panel.
I replace the steel sun screen rods with dowel rods to eliminate breaking rod housing if you hit rods.

Out of all the shooting I've done through a chrono, I've only struck 1 support bracket. some guys were shooting a small target far off, so I re-aligned my rifle onto the target, and took a shot. I forgot all about the chrono and hit the support arm. It still worked though.
I saw a good friend drill through an Ohler 35P. I couldn't stop laughing!

I havent destroyed a crono yet but i was leaving the range the other day and I MMIGHT have left my powder scale on the side of my truck bed. Didnt realize it till the next day went back to the range and there it was laying on the side of the road looking like it had been run over about 15 times. Oh well just have to spend another $150 LOL

Note to self: re-zero scope before testing a new load through the chrony.

This is so so simple, yet so many people just can't seem to get a handle on it. This is the exact way I've always done it. I've never shot my chrono yet and I've fired 100's of rounds over mine.

For those of you looking for a "budget friendly" chrono the CED M2 is hard to beat. I've seen a few compared side by side with 35P's and been very very close.

I'm always looking to buy 6.5x47 brass and 130gr bullets.

I am on my second one, but the first chrony just died of "old age".

Had a buddy shoot a skyscreen rod in half, but that was a pretty easy fix.

Maybe we could come up with a spread sheet using FPE, Bullet Brineal, x Diameter

"Ballistics Requirement for a clean Passthru on various Chrony"

I have a chrony that could be uses as a test subject actually though its integrety might be subject, as the case has been damaged after the wind blew the tripod over and cracked the housing on that drought hardned ground last summer.

The chrony I saw centered by a 30-06 although DRT was not charging, nor prtecting young young chronies infact as it was on its first range trip it could be considered a young one, therefore conclusion not as tough as a seasoned chrony. A 180 gr Remington corelokt was enough to provide a pass through.
