Not sure if its true or not but my grandfather use to tell me that females have four dark bands on their tails and males commonly have 5-6 bands.


Wives' tale. It's likely female. Males practically never get that big, the shape of the tail drops off more abruptly in females also. I'm a herpetologist when I'm actually working and not killing piggies... Nerd job.

Sure did, but I seem to be building quite a stash of skins in my freezer, don't like that a bit.

Thats good eatin right there ill only kill rattle snakes to eat just cant kill a snake that wants to avoid bitting!! wish we had more dimond backs but all we got mostly is Timbers and cant kill them even for meat.

there is one thing about rattle bugs in STX. Snake boots and chaps dont do any good. They get som big out there, that they just bite you in the dang neck.

They were going down a couple of deer trails nearby. Thank God for a well built stand when ole no shoulders and his friend are literally right under your feet. We have learned to keep even our ground blinds at least a foot off the ground so we can see what's under them.

On the radio this morning they interviewed the chairman of the milking pit at the Rattle Snake round up in Sweetwater. He said they were paying $10/pound this weekend.
