Wouldn't 22-250 be enough for deer? Isn't hog hide thicker?

with the right bullets of course it is big enough for deer. the only problem with the 22-250 is the velocity it creates and the frangible varmint bullets that some people try and use on deer or pigs.
they can create surface blowups with no penetration.

America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards. Claire Wolfe

Problem with factory 22-250s is the twist - usually 1:12 or 1:14, which is to slow to stabilize any bullet heavier (longer, actually) than a 60gr. Nosler Partition in 60gr might work.

With the right projectile I would probably just use a your sling shot.

Here we go.

If you shoot a pig with a .22 caliber anything and it runs off you haven't lost much.

Shoot a buck of a lifetime and watch him run off. Whether you find him later or not isn't the point. That crappy feeling and pucker factor you feel as your trophy runs away will convince you that you never want to feel that way again.

I shot a doe this season with a 64 grain bonded bullet and had passthru with an exit hole right at a half inch. The blood trail was steady and adequate but she ran about 150 yards. I've shot pigs as well and recovered them. That said it is the rifle platform of choice for many hunters today and it can and will take deer sized game in the .223 caliber with the right ammo. I however am convinced I want a little more punch. Will I still use my .223 on a pig if I see one while varmint hunting? You bet your arse. But if I'm deer hunting or pig hunting I will take my newest addition to the gun safe, an R15 in .30RAR or my Rem mod 600 in 6MM Rem. At least, that is, if I'm not bowhunting.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

What! No one here gonna own up to how many deer and/or pigs they've killed with their trusty .22, back in high school, when it was a right of passage to road hunt. ............ I'm not puter literate enough to add smily's and all but just so ya'll know you might want to check the air fresheners.

I had plenty of friends who did. They went to a different school and come to find out they had shot 6 deer out of our wheat fields with 22s.

Small pellets of lead at high velocity have detrimental effect on all living things.
