New user, just a cornfed guy from Iowa. OEF Vet a la the U.S. Army.
I've been lurking here for a long time and was planning a hunt down in Texas for feral pigs, but my buddies had other ideas, and we're going to Mizzou instead. I'm not real happy about it, but I get to slay some pigs so I don't care.
My question is threefold: Do any of you have any experience using hornady .223 55gr TAP FPD on pigs?
Any experience with Federal Premium .223 55gr Nosler ballistic tip?
Or regular m193 or m855 5.56 rounds?
I have a box of each of the first two and about 1k of the two latter. I've searched and read just about every .223 ammo thread regarding pigs, but can't find any info on these 4 types of ammo.
I'll be shooting an AR with either a 1911 or G19 as backup.
I understand the whole shot placement is key mantra, and I am fairly certain I can do my part, so that aside any real world experience with any of these ammo's would be awesome.
Thanks in advance for the great advice and thanks for the great reading I've already done in the last 6 months lurking.

No experience with most of those. I would stay away from the nosler BT loads on hogs. I know several here that say the 75gr taos are great for hogs .

If your gun will shoot the 75 grn that would be my choice. the other two choices are not impressive to me at all. Just for what it is worth myself and most of the guys that I know who shoot AR's on pigs use rem PSP, Cheap and at 223 velocity is way deadlier than a person might think.

I killed a monster boar this weekend with a 55 grain behind the ear at about 150.. First one knocked it down but i laid 2 more inthere to make sure.. He was well over 300 pounds.. I have found a good deal at Cheaper than dirt with 55 grain spire point BVAC facory reloads.. My DPMS varmint with a 24 inchbull loves them..never had a misfire and they shoot nickel size groujp all day long..They run about 17 bucks for 50..

Well thanks fellas. I'll just bring 20 rounds of everything I have and let the outfitter in Mizzou tell me what he thinks is best.
I'm fairly certain regular 55gr fmj would do the trick, but I bought these ballistic tips, so I figure if they work I might as well use them on a live target instead of paper.
Thanks fellas for the input and the welcomes.

the fmj will work just fine if you can hit some bone, that turns it into a different round than if you just hit meat. sowaht I am trying to say is go for the shoulders with the fmj and stay away from them with the BT's

I used to carry a Ruger Ranch Rifle 223 in the truck w/55 grain FMJ..cheap junk...I killed probably 40 hogs varying sizes...no problem...most were under 100 yds and I had a large clip...Got tired of fixing the fences and feeders...Dirt

Ive killed many with the 55grain fmj's and never lost one. on big hog with a behind the shoulder shot you dont get a passthrough a lot of times. I have seen fmj's actually look like they exploded on entry and end up as shrapnel inthe opposite rib cage.
As far as the nosler ballistic tips go those are strait up varmint bullets that are intented for small game. they might work but on a big hog I think the fmj would be better for penetration.
