I found alot of sign scouting this weekend but it seems that the hogs are staying in the very thickest parts, during the day anyways. I was thinking of throwing dowm some soured corn to get them out to where I can put an arrow in one. About how often should I bait the area to get some results? I need them to come out in the daylight.

pm me too ... just kidding

I'm not a hog hunting expert but I'd suspect it'd be hard to just throw some feed out and have them hit it. You might do better to slip into the thick stuff and sit on a trail all day.

True, that, Chris...unless you have a permit or authorized document for a specific place and a specific time.

Most public land around DFW for Hogs will be bow only, ie. corps of engineer lands.

man I wish...not enough money right now to start buying new toys..lol...the wife wouldnt like it too much...to be honest i have never even shot a bow...really i have never killed an animal besides a few doves this past season and maybe a few crows and what not when i was a kid with the pellet guns...honestly i shoot alot, just never had the money to get a lease...oh well, if anyone knows of any spots i can bust some yotes or pigs...lemme know...I dont really have the money to pay for a lease to hunt deer...but that will come with time...too much to do with this income tax *new baby boy* so maybe next year...

get your public hunting permit, its not the same as a lease, but it makes a good amount of land available for you to hunt.

im definately going to get the public permit, saw that it starts over again in sept? right? and its good through last day of august...correct? not quite sure though..are there any public places that allow you to use a rifle to shoot hogs/ coyotes/ varmints in general in texas? I was on the site for the different areas and all the ones I read said they were for shotgun or bow only...anywhere that allows a scoped .270?? thanks for the help guys!!

a couple of the public lands used to allow it. I don't know if they do any more.

I hunted Caddo National Grasslands last weekend but the fog moved in Saturday so didnt get to see anything. I hunted the area to the North East away from the lake. It is nice and quit up there and seems to be a great area for pigs and calling. I am planning on going back in the next week or two. Caddo is about 90 miloes from Lewisville and allows rifles or archery.

If you have a shotgun several units are shotgun/slug. Cooper WMA, Old Sabine River WMA, White Oak Creek WMA and a few more. All 3 of these are open right now.............We hunted Sabine 2 weeks ago and didn't see a hog one, there is a first time for everything. Those hogs out there have just disapeared but they will be back.

When you buy an APH (Annual Public Hunting) permit, the state of Texas will send you or yiou should get a booklet of all the places you can hunt. That booklet will have maps of the tracts as well as rules for that particular tract
