My question is not how much it cost for a transfer. I am trying to determine if the normal FFL holder charges you for for each transfer or each form?
One of my FFL hlders charges $5 per form 4473. 5 guns can be transferred on one form. This guy is really inconvenient to get to but from this guy I can get 5 guns transferred to me for a total of $5
Another FFL holder charges $25 per gun. This guy is about a block from my office but for the sale 5 guns it would cost me $125 transfer fee
How does your dealer do it?
I edited this post because it was confusing the way I worded it the first time.
Thanks

Ok, I have read and see where the FFL has to do fill out Form 3310.4 if multiple firearms are purchased and fax it in. But is there more that is involved to justify charging the full price for every gun?

Ive used some that charged per($20-$30) weapon and one I use all the time that doesnt charge a dime. I buy several guns a year and that adds up. Ive noticed the ones that charge higher transfer prices tend to have higher prices on everything in there store.

yeah the going rate around here is about $25 but the one shop that only charges $5 is only if you have your CHL, without the CHL he charges $20. He is about 20 miles out of my way so I will usually just use one of the local shops that charge $25 But If I buy 4 lowers I dont want to spend $100 on transfer fees

I charge 10. The 4473 is the same, but the logging in and out process is more the more guns you are buying. I cut my price on multiples if its a bunch, or a very repeat customer.

But is there more that is involved to justify charging the full price for every gun? That form is only required for handguns and certain semi auto rifles. Justify what? You bought it online cheaper probably, then the FFL has to me meet you and run your background check etc. Its a very small margin. Heck a plumber charges a hundred just to come out.

He runs a shop, he is always there and I don't request to go after hours or anything. I have my CHL so he don't have to run the background check. Right?

I charge full price for the first then half each more if doing 3 or more. If its more than 5 I have make a spreadsheet for serial numbers so that takes some time. Yes, CHL's are much easier for sure. If had a regular shop, I would prob not charge each additional, but mine are about the cheapest there is though. My stuff is appointment though, DSS is not my main source of income, but is what I am into. So I have to schedule people. Yea, I have seen online other gunshops charging an FFL fee for stuff they are selling. I would never charge a fee for something I bought and am selling. I charge 10. The 4473 is the same, but the logging in and out process is more the more guns you are buying. I cut my price on multiples if its a bunch, or a very repeat customer. I am an FFL, and you set your own price for a transfer. Most charge $20 to $30. If you have a CHL, you don't have to phone in the background check, and it is faster for the FFL. But otherwise the same process.

If it is for more than 2 AR's or pistol's (3 or more), I won't do the transfer. I don't want to have to mess with the other forms needed for multiple firearm sales. IF I did 5 or more at one time, going to the same person, I'd work with you on a reduced rate, say $10 to $15 each. You might think that is expensive, until you have the ATF knock on your door at any time for an inspection! Being an FFL isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Being an FFL isn't all it's cracked up to be. Yeah I looked into it a few years ago, not something I wanted to have to put up with, not as a hobby anyways.

Well thanks for the guys that do it for 10-15$. Taking the chance of the buyer showing up late or whatever for $10 would P me off.

Agree for sure Chad. You have a niche, thats what you have to have to make it. If we didn't do machining, silencers etc, we wouldn't make it. I feel sorry for the FFL's who have to do only sales and compete with the internet, thats tough living. This is my passion, but no where near my main source of income. Its what I love though. If it is for more than 2 AR's or pistol's (3 or more), I won't do the transfer. I don't want to have to mess with the other forms needed for multiple firearm sales. $10 transfers may not add up much but it seems like a good way to expand business. If an FFL treats me good on a simple transfer when they aren't making anything then I feel pretty good that when it comes time to drop some real money on a $1k gun or NFA item they will be good to deal with.

I could be wrong but I believe a firearm transaction has to take place at the address that is shown on the FFL unless they are at a gun show.
Please correct me If I am wrong though. This is what an older guy that I used a few times told me. You're correct.

To follow what Chad said there is a lot more to being a FFL, lots of red tape and dealing with inspectors can be a big pain. Not to mention the fact the FFL costs money and if he is an SOT that is an extra 500 or 1000 bucks a year.
10 to 20 bucks per seems pretty fair to me. Trust me the money is sometimes not worth the effort.
