Well I went ahead and bit the bullet and bought me a RCBS Rock Chucker reloading kit...

After going to a friend's ranch and watching him make a $500 rifle shoot a 3 shot 3/8" inch group, I was intrigued. Looks like a lot of fun, and a reason to spend more time on the bench!!

Going to go to Cabelas tommorrow and buy some dies, shell holders a reloading manual.

Very excited to get into it, but am going to take my time. I have read nearly all of the stickys at the top, and have come to realize that the fun and learning is just about to begin!

So anyways, just a prewarning that I will probably be buggin-bombarding yall with questions!!

Quote:
a reloading manual

Pick up a couple or at least the one specific to the bullet brand you plan on loading.
Or the Calibre Specific handloaders book

Thanks RWH24..

I guess I will be picking up a Barnes and Hornady.

Looking forward to making some mean rounds for the .243 and the .454.

Congrats. Ask all the questions you want.

Remember, the only dumb question asked in reloading is the one that isn't asked.

This place is a wealth of information. Every time a question is asked, everybody stands to gain from the knowledge of the people replying.

I love this section of THF.

Welcome to the party banana

There are some great guys that participate on this forum.

Since you are going to Cabelas for part of what you will need the one in Fort Worth has reloading classes on Sundays that are free and have gotten good reviewa from the guys that have attended them from here. I am not sure of the times but know they do them on Sunday.

I just saw that on their website Kmon. Looks like I'll hold off until Sunday so that I can take the class too.

Like a lil kid in the frigin candy shop right now!!

Oh BTW... After looking into all of this... By the time I buy dies, more reloading manuals, bullet puller, tumbler, media and componets, I am sure that I am gonna be at least a $1k into this... Hope its worth it!!

I have been at it for over 35 years and to me it is worth it. There is a sense of pride when you shoot your loads into small groups and even more so when you make your first kill with bullets you assembled. For some of the loads I use there is a savings of over $2.50 per shot, those really make it worthwhile.

For the media the crushed walnut shells at pet stores works and is cheaper than buying the "polishing media"

A read through the Tips thread is interesting and helpful as well, if you have not already

Welcome reeder05,
Some great guys with lots of experience. Ask away. Something new that is out there are the utube videos, if you can weed through all the BS ones.. Look at the manufactures site for some good ones, but they will be bias toward their eq. There are several listed in the tips thread. cheers

My advice would be to read your entire reloading manual and watch plenty of youtube videos. "Ammosmith" on youtube has some super excellent reloading videos for beginners. I learned much from him when I started 4 years ago.

Just be warned reloading can be a obsession. There is always looking for new components and gadgets etc. but it is fun and you will get to shoot a lot!
