Ellis County Varmint Competition
Date: March 24-25 0800 Sat-1100 Sun

Location:Boyce Feed and Grain 441 S College St, Waxahachie, TX 75165

General Info: Cash only for entry fee ($50 per team). Heavy pots available for $10 each. Ten animal cap on all species. This contest will last for a total of 27 hours. 1-4 man teams no more.

Coyote=25pts
Fox=15pts
Coon=5pts

Rules: No pooling of animals. No baiting an area to hunt. (If the animal has died you may hunt by the animal but can not either kill an animal and place it somewhere or move and animal after natural death.) Team members must hunt on the same piece of property but may split up and hunt as long as they remain on the same piece of property. You must only hunt on land you have permission to hunt or state required land. No shooting off of public roads. If you drive up on an animal or walk up on an animal you must come to a complete stop, squeak, call, or make some kind of noise to make that animal commit vefore pulling the trigger. By commit I mean he must stop and look at you. You may shoot raccoons out of trees as long as they are looking at you. All team members may not start hunting until the tournament begins. Only animals that have been shot during the contest hours will count for the contest. No adding weight to your animal. Must follow state rules. No trapping of animals allowed.

Game Warden will be present at weigh in time.

Payout:1st 75%
2nd 25%

Heavy Pot: 100% for each

Registration will be from 0730-0815 all team members must be present at registration and weigh in. Host are hunting in competition. Teams may leave at 0800am Saturday.

Wish I could be there Panther. I will be taking some of my old platoon buddies out that Saturday night doing some predator hunting. I don't think they will want to do the comp though. But I'm for sure gonna ask.

When is weigh in?

Man had to be on the weekend I get married. Don't think future wife would appreciate staying out all night right after wedding.

We have a wedding to go to also. Won't be able to make it this time either.

What if I pushed it to march 24-25 would that help some people out just a ? Not set in stone yet need input

Forgive me a stupid question but I haven't hunted one of these contests before. Do you have to have your own land to hunt on or do folks in the area allow you to hunt for the contest. I would love to hunt in one, but don't have access to land in this area. Ever get people looking for a partner?

Jimmy G - You do have to have land that you have permission to hunt on. However, there are sometimes people looking for an extra person on the team. You might find somebody if you ask around.
Also you'd be surprised at the farmers and landowners that would be willing to let you call coyotes.

Michael - 24-25th would be better... My Dad won't be able to make either. But Chad and I can hunt, and Opossum may hunt with us too that weekend.
