my fire dept is going to have a raffle for 3 guns this year , we are raffling an AR-15 , and a shotgun like last year , but this year we are going to add a .22 cal rifle and I was asked if I could get the opinion of some hunters and outdoor people which style .22 cal rifle would be preferred to help get people to buy tickets

Love them all, and would consider raffle tickets for all of them.

the henry is the lever action he is going to look at as well , he just wanted to know if there was a hands down preferred rifle that would help with ticket sales

I would think to sell the most tickets you would probably want to stick with a 10/22 or lever. The ar rifles are cool, but alot of people look at those and think ((gasp!)) ASSAULT RIFLE! My vote was for 10/22.

A Ruger 77/22

If it were for me personally it would be one of CZ's slick little bolt guns. My go to .22 is a Henry levergun, no telling how many thousands of rounds it has down the barrel and still shoots like a champ.

After owning semis, bolts and lever. Hands down lever, but that due to my live of the CB round, plus you hardly have a FTF and the Henry trigger is sweeeeeet.

I voted for the lever 22. I like the 10/22s but I would personally rather have the lever over the 10/22.

Look at marlin's 39as lever gun too. Sweet shootin lil gun.

I voted for the 10/22 but I would also go with the guy who said look at the CZ's like a 452/455.

I would personally go for a lever, but with the AR craze still going strong, I would think that it would create more ticket sales. Then again you already have one in the raffle, so IDK

I picked lever just because...

I've been looking at swapping out of a couple late '70's mebbe collector quality 22lr's for some hard core serious tree rat shooters and would offer these opinions and insight after studying on the market for the last month or so.

Forget buying any of the new Marlin's now that the Remington bean counters have ruined the product line. IMO the new XT's Series is not ever going to be something I would buy or keep at any price. YMMV

Depending on $$'s available for a 22 of some sort...in a sub $250-300 BA, find a Marlin 8 or 980 series in either bl/syn, SS/syn or SS/lam. They are the last of the good Marlins and still some NIB stuff around on GB. Model 39 lever actions now list at $750 and excellent Quality used one commonely go for $5-$750. Model 60's are known as "Jamomatic's" for a reason.

Savage has never held a candle to the Marlins in the past but are now equal in quality to the Rem/Marlins and at a little better prices.

Ruger 77/22's are neat looking but some kinda 'spensive and don't shoot well enough to justify the price IMO.

CZ is going thru a model change and the 452's are disc'd but a NIB or near new American can still be bought for just under $400 and well worth it...but a 453 would be a tad better with it's set trigger feature. 455's are the new platform and the Switch barrel Combo at around $500 in a 22LR & 17HMR pair of matched barrels and mag's might be your best answer at that price point.

Dunno anything about the Henry's, but anything that was bought out by Remington recently has looked like $#$#!* to me from what I've been able to put hands on.

If you decide to look for a Marlin 39 the oldie but goodie's are hard to find, I am going to sell my 1973 Model 39 "D" (1 of 2200). "D" Models are simply the carbine length in a pistol grip stock, and were only produced for 3 years from '72 thru '74. If Interested PM me and we'll discuss a FTF only Cash Sale north of Dallas somewhere. My late '70's Ruger 10/22 Sporter Deluxe in a Triple A Fancy wood with full length thru & thru Fiddleback is a bit cheaper and is also going away as it is too pretty to put in the woods.

I voted AR-22, simply because the kids think they are cool and want to shoot them. They don't relate to Dad's Ruger 10/22 or Grandpa's lever action.
