We are a fully licensed, insured and bonded outfitters that operate in Northern Idaho and Central California Sierra Nevada mountains.

We currently have some spring bear hunts available for May 1-30, 2012. These hunts are lodge based, full service and have very high success rate. We use a combination of bait and hounds to do the majority of our hunting but spot and stalk is also employed on an opportunistic basis. In the morning we hunt with dogs and in the evenings we hunt over bait so this hunt is almost like 2 hunts in one making them a great value for your money.

We are located in the Northeastern corner of the state about 65 miles south of British Columbia and our area borders Montana on the Eastern side. Our location on the Montana border is a great advantage to our bear hunting since bait nor hounds is allowed on the Montana side of the border for bear hunting. This makes the hunting pressure in the area overall fairly low. This area is one of the most beautiful places in the country and many people visit our region just to see the mountains and lakes.

We harvest about 50% color phase bears and spring hides are great quality. Weights vary but spring bears will weigh as much as 350lbs and fall bears can go over 400lbs. Mature boars will square between 6 and 7 feet.

The cost of these 5 day hunts is $2500 for one hunter or $3500 for 2 hunters. Our business is growing by leaps and bounds, we invite you to come and join our ever growing hunting family and see why more and more people are spending their time afield with Leon and Molly Brown. Find us on the web @ clarkforkoutfitters.com or give us a call, we are in the Pacific time zone (208) 267-2306. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for the interest folks. License for a nonresident is $154.75 and the tag is $186.00. In the past 7 seasons I have guided in this area our success for those who have participated in both hound and bait hunting has been about 90-95%. for those choosing to participate in either one or the other I would say it is about 75%. The biggest factor is weather but you can certainly increase your odds by taking advantage of all methods available. Feel free to call me as I can answer all of your questions much quicker over the phone than I can by typing. Thanks again for your interest.

Thanks Sab,

I took that one while guiding in Nevada for Duncan Outfitters a couple years ago. I am currently eligible for a master guide license in Nevada but have elected to defer for one more season in light of our recent acquisition of Clark Fork Outfitters. It was taken just across the border from Cedar City, Utah. It is classic pinion pine and rim rock high desert country. I think it is some of the most beautiful territory in a state not exactly known for majestic grandeur.

Another real beautiful area in Nevada is on the other side of the state along the California border. I was fortunate enough to have a friend of a friend who drew one of the tags, for the first bear season ever since the inception of the Nevada Department of Wildlife, in 2011 invite me to bring my hounds and participate in the hunt. It was an experience of a lifetime, and Tyler Yohee was fortunate enough to harvest the bear of a lifetime. This bear squared slightly over 8 FEET! I will post a picture soon but I need to get one uploaded to my photobucket album.

I guess I should give a little history on the bear picture, I was not guiding when the picture was taken, just having some fun with a couple friends and my wife and kids, it was taken in Northern Idaho in May a few years back. About a six footer with awesome color, viewed from the side he gets about five shades lighter.

Not intentionally going BTT but I like to reply to folks when they make a post on my thread, it is just the way I am. Thanks for reading.

I hunted with Leon and his hounds a couple years back and was fortunate enough to take a 15 8/16 cat. I have hunted with many other houndsman and outfitters, and non hold a candle to Leon and his lead dog Mugs. I am eagerly awaiting a return in May for a spring bear hunt with Leon. If you want a quality hunt in some of the prettiest country in the northwest, give Leon a call!

Thanks for the good reference, you ought to put up a link to the story you did in Huntin' Fool.

Sq2-It will depend a little on what kind of a spring we have but it is always 75-80% or better. If we have a warm spring it should be near 100% but I don't dare promise that.

I noticed someone asked about what is included and I kind of overlooked answering that part of the question. It includes 6 nights lodging, 5 days of hunting, all meals and non alcoholic beverages, field care and removal of your bear, transport of your bear to local check in station and upon request local taxidermist and meat locker, and yes they are delicious when prepared properly. We will also either freeze your meat and hide for transport home or pick up your meat from the locker and ship it to you but the cost of the coolers/shipping/dry ice is not included in this service.

We can provide airport shuttle service at an additional cost but recommend a rental car if you fly in. The nearest airport is Spokane, WA.

I am reducing the price on the 2012 spring bear hunting dates that I have left in order to try and get all my dates filled. I am going to give anyone who books a hunt between now and spring season 10% off. This will make the price $2250 for a single hunter or $3150 for a pair. The early season is booked up but I have dates that are open from May 12th through the 31st. The later part of the month is generally the best hunting so the dates available are good ones.

If you are considering this hunt please visit our website at www.clarkforkoutfitters.com and click on the link that is nearly to the bottom of the home page to see reviews on Clark Fork Outfitters as well as reviews on outfitters from all across the state if Idaho. We have a history of providing quality service and as the owner I will do anything and everything possible to keep our history of excellence in tact and unblemished.

This is anything but a canned hunt, however we maintain a very high success rate by working hard and hunting hard. Come on up to Idaho and enjoy some of the most exciting hunting you will ever participate in. Thanks for reading, here is a picture of pair of hunters on the first afternoon of their hunt, we were at the Diamond T guest Ranch where we lodge our clients.

I am going to reduce the price on the hunts I have left one more time, I have a few weeks left and would rather fill them at a discount than see them go unused. I am reducing the price to $1900 for a single hunter or $2900 for a pair of hunters with a guide.
