Cool. Never used one before. Do you have to drill a starter hole or will it bore it's way through to start the cut

Oh for an abrasive waterjet and a day of unsupervised play...
We always had to sub ours out to a fab shop just down the road, but I loved to watch those guys operate. Cuts glass just like butter.

Thanks for taking a look. The waterjet is a fascinating machine. My waterjet is a 64.5" vertical bandsaw that I made some modifications to - works great for a fefw blades or at a time.
I am honored that I was commissioned to make 21 Model-1 knives for active Marines who will deploy later this year. The waterjet was the obvious place to start this project.

Jeff

Neat! Does the water jet cut finer than a lazer? What are the advantages? Thanks

Chief, Good question. The waterjet does not heat and therefore change the steel. A waterjet is normally used to cut >1/4" steel. Lasers are great for thinner stock and cutting where heating the steel is unimportant. Lasers cut faster. Now you know the full extent of my waterjet and laser knowledge - lol Neat! Does the water jet cut finer than a lazer? What are the advantages? Thanks

I have never seen one operate. I'll have to look one up. Maybe youtube? I only have first hand with plazma and a small amount of lazer. Didin't think there was enough heat involved. I'd like to see your conversion! thanks

I'd like to see your conversion! thanks You might be surprised at just how little heat it takes to change the grain structure in an annealed piece of steel. Just getting the steel to hot in one place when grinding the blade can cause it to warp or twist during heat treat if it isn't done right. I know a guy who has a CNC plasma cutter and he has offered to profile blades for me but I said no thanks. I don't like adding unknown variables into my blades and with a good 36 grit belt profiling blades is one of the quickest parts of the process for me anyway. Now if I had access to a waterjet that might be a different story.

Thank you. PM me if you are interested in a Model-1 at a reduced price. I will get as many as needed from the waterjet and can therefore cut production cost.

I do like the Model 1. Good looking knife. If I ever get my bill to Chops paid off, this is next on the list!
