Where I live this country wasn't fenced like it is know and I'm just talking 15 to 20 years ago. Some of my fondest memories growing up were chasing a pack of baying hounds at night with lanterns.Fragmented land has put an end to the old style hunts around here, but I'm glad I got to do it before it came to an end. Most all of the old timers have past on but people my age raised here will never forgett those hunts. I guess me and my friends have to take responsibility for that form of hunting dying out because we were the ones that didn't keep it going. Shame on us. JMO

I grew up doing the same. It was a great hobby!

Sorry, I'm not voting because I don't know enough about it, but I'm interested. What does cactus, catclaw, lechugilla, and sharp rocks do to the dogs? I know what they do to me, but can dogs handle it? This country is not very friendly to bird dogs of the quail hunting variety. Have often considered a coon dog because I hate the little &*^%$*'s.

I am not that old but my uncle used to take me. He even gave me a red bone coon hound which I appropriately named Ann.

Ok I have never heard of a bay dog? I did hunt with some awesome Tree dogs with Mr. Clyde Dodson. We hunted around Blum with Billy Joe French, around Chalk Mountain with Jess McCoy. Also, hunted around Coventon. Those Treeing Walkers were alot of fun for sure.
Mr. Dodson taught me to respect another mans fences, and if you leave it in a tree at the end of the night it will be there next week.
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

ME too, I spent many nights out in the woods chasing the dogs.
Those of you who do not stand behind our millitary, please stand in front of it!!!

Got a redtick and bluetick.. The dogs look lazy till you take them hunting.. Then they look like a greyhound on crack..

I've coon hunted behind Blue's. Great dogs. It's as fun as a childhood can get. Heck, I still like to do it.
