I think a lot of it has to do with the ability of the shooter. Not just the rifle. amen

I think the question can be answered by looking at the type of gun that benchrest shooters use!!!! 10 shots that are monitered by a second piece of paper, behind the target, that is moving--better be 10 holes in that moving target.

I have been interested in the semi auto Benelli's, Brownings / BAR's, but have been hesitant because of mixed reviews of their accuracy. Does anyone have any photos of groups they are getting out of either? Thanks!

I can shoot my AR10 every bit as accurate as my Remmy 700. As far as offhand shots.....never take them unless it's hogs. A followup up accurate shot is way easier with an auto.

I have never thought about buying one until reading some of the posts and pics from the guys tearing up the hogs with them. Now I am still kinda on the fence I really like playing with the cowboy guns but might look into one this summer. Are they cheaper to build or buy?

Build if you are competent enough, they aren't all that complicated . The main advantage to them with pigs is the fast follow up shots which can aid in either more pigs down or more rounds wasted.

Has anyone shot the new Remmington Ar style hunting rifle? A close friend has one and he was pretty disappointed that he couldn't keep it under 3/4" at 200 yards.

Well simple mechanics say the bolt action is the more accurate platform because of the total lockup throughout the shot. I agree. By design, a bolt action holds the cartridge in the chamber in a more consistent manner than a semi-auto. With a semi, you give up accuracy to gain convenience, and vice versa. Still, the average semi is still plenty accurate enough for the average hunter.

Still, the average semi is still plenty accurate enough for the average hunter. I agree. Most of us prolly own both. If you took them all together and averaged it all out with novice and pro shooters, I think the bolt action would easily be the more accurate weapon overall. However, I have full confidence in each of the AR style weapons I own. They are all more than accurate enough to hit close enough to the targeted area to get the job done. I practice constantly. Last week I was zeroing my new AR in .308 with the new Pulsar Digisight and X2 doubler. The last 3 shots were dead on touching each other. That's plenty good for me. As someone else eluded to....most of either of these style weapons are better than the shooter behind them...

Does anyone have any photos of groups they are getting out of either? Thanks! I will asure you that you will be happy with a BAR if you can find one. The BAR 2 fixed the problem with the action stopping when loading the first round. you would always have to manualy push it shut on the old ones but i wouldnt pass up the opportunity if you found one in good condition. i would recomend it in .270 if you did get it. We got a BAR 2 .270 in mint condition for my brother at christmas and had to get it from Georgia. If you take good care of them their resale value is very good

I've had a couple of BAR's in 7MM and 300 Win Mag that would shoot under 1in groups at 100yds, and 1 243 that wouldn't shoot 4ins at 100 yds...The German made gun that's distrubed from San Antonio..Mod 303 had a writeup in the Rifle Mag that it shot under 1in groups with factory loads...All of the Bars I handloaded....Also the German Rifle was $4000...Some of the AR style semi autos also shoot impressive groups...I have had Garands and M14's that would shoot min. of angle also...DD

lol, just cause you kill alot of animals with a semi auto doesnt make it any better.
This topic is very very hard to talk about cause there are to many varibles.
In general bolt action are more accurate, i dont really see our military snipers shooting semi auto to often.

apparently your comparing apples to oranges. the original question was not in my opinion at least asking about specialized target or sniper rifles, of course the bolt action is superior in those cases. What I said if you will remember is that I said that "some" semi's will outshoot "most" bolts. And I still stand by that. The AR platform has produced some amazingly accurate and affordable for the common man rifles that have no trouble shooting well under inch groups. And they don;t have to be floated and bedded to do so.

I very aware of their capabilities.. My point was the bolt platform is the preferred platform to build on due to its accuracy. So your already at a disadvantage in your agruement. Also a custom AR is no different then a custom bolt. And most ar barrels are floated
