A wound-o-matic vs. a killing machine. I'll take the killing machine.

Some AR's will outshoot many bolt actions. hell make that MOST bolt actions..
America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards. Claire Wolfe

Nado, I am impressed. You have come up with some topics that really do stir the pot.
I am going to go with bolt action when one animal is the intention. Semi auto when multiple shots will be required.
Accuracy though, I will go with bolt action.

my bushmaster was very, very accurate. moreso than i expected from a gun that break in two pieces.
a 740 or 7400, however, well, I leave the spray and pray at home.
coffee can size groups just arn't for me

The Remington 740's have had accuracy problems since the 70's and remington fails to address it. Its a barrel problem.
My findings on the subject are it depends on your luck of getting a good shooting gun or not.

Well simple mechanics say the bolt action is the more accurate platform because of the total lockup throughout the shot.
Not to say some semi-autos are not more accurate than some bolt actions of course-this is where the thread will spin off into the huffing and puffing/hurt feelings.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

the benelli semi-auto's are very accurate.
the BAR's aren't bad either.
If you hunt with any semi-auto under a high fence they automatically gain alot of accuracy though...guns just shoot better under a high fence

I ordered a GAPrecision-10 that will be in this month. It has been known to shoot 3/8 moa. Pretty impressive for a semi, considering a lot of bolt guns can barely make 1 moa. That being said, you could get a remington 700 sps tac,put an F1 Nightforce on it, and a McMillan stock for the same price of a GAP-10 alone. So, a semi CAN be just as accurate as a bolt gun;however, you are going to pay for it. It all depends on what its going to be used for.

I think a lot of it has to do with the ability of the shooter. Not just the rifle.

The only way to tell would be some side by side tests using various ammo and a rifle vise to lock it in place. Otherwise most any post on this thread is BS.

Most rifles are more accurate than their owners. You will notice no one ever shows pics of their 100 yard offhand groups. MO

I have a Remington 742 in .30-06 (my dad's old gun) and an old sporterized Mauser bolt-action in .243. I shoot each one fairly often; the Mauser is far more accurate. Some of that can be attributed to the .243's ballistics vs. the .30-06, and some to the Leupold VX-II scope I put on the Mauser vs. the ancient Weaver 6x scope on the Remington. But I think a lot of it is the action. When I have to be accurate at distance, I take the Mauser.

You cant compare an all out custom semi auto to an off the shelf economy bolt gun and viser versa. If every component is pushed to the utmost for acuracy I believe no matter how small and insignificant the difference is, the bolt gun will always have a slight edge. Not saying auto's cant be accurate or very accurate, just that when you compare apples to apples the bolt will do better. JMO, maybe im wrong.

My findings on the subject are it depends on your luck of getting a good shooting gun or not. Between my dad and I we have 3 of the 742's two of them shoot well but not great. The biggest problem i have with them is the 15 lb trigger pull im exaggerating but it feels like I could brew a cup of coffee by the time the gun goes off. Not much adjustment either.

The AR style auto's have significantly changed the realms of thought on this subject they are very accurate compared to their predecessors. Most of the shelf AR's will shoot very good as do most bolt actions do, like above the bolt gun will be slightly better but most will never know.

My bolt Mossberg is deadly at 100 yrds. I can shoot bottle caps with it. As is my single shot heavy barrel .223

My Armalite AR10 in a 260 is a tack driving fool.. Having said that, my Rem Sendero 300 mag will smoke it.
