Hello forum,
My name is Sam, and I am a high school student in an engineering class. My team of students and I are required to invent a solution to a problem. We are interested in duck hunting, and we want to solve a problem associated with duck hunting. If you could tell us any problems you have with duck hunting, or take our survey, it would really help. Please include as much detail as you desire; no problem is too insignificant.

TL;DR high school engineering students need a duck hunting problem to solve.

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting.......holy kaka.....What a Ride!

Leaky waders!!!

But seriously, Google it. I just did a search for "Duck Hunting Problems" and about a hundred hunting related articles came up. Some useful, some not so much. Just an idea.

Steel shot. Its exspensive and wounds more ducks than lead ever killed. Also shooting time. I think if you got ducks landing in the decoys and you can see them then it should be time to shoot. I hate educating 80 ducks 3 minutes before leagal time. I think some birds should have a higher limits. It seems to me there is a ton of gadwalls and widgeons. May just be my region. Also if the birds are still migrating, why cant we hunt them? I got more birds here than I had during the season. Im just bored since the season ended. Its what I love best about guiding. Come on turkeys.

On the last question, waiting is never a problem for me. I enjoy being out in nature too much to put a negative spin on the time between shooting.

Might help if you let us know what type of Engineering program you're in.

Could you help with a civil project to direct water from Mississippi River to other areas in Texas to help with drought. Most of the season, we, duck hunters, didn't have water in our lakes.

On calm days, you need to use a jerk string rig to get water to move and create movement in your deeks. There are some devices to help with that, but they're big and bulky. And typically run on batteries.

I walk in when I hunt public. I typically carry about 15 decoys (which istn't that much), blind bag, shotgun, and what ever else I need. It would be nice to have a cart made for the walk in duck hunter. It would need to be light, but strong enough to carry the load. It also has to get over rough tarrain.

Oh, if you can't engineer a solution to redirect water from the Mississippi, how about some portable mud shoe. It would need to attach to the the bottom of waders and allow the hunter to walk over soft mud, similiar to a snow show.

Last but not least, for my buddy Treebass, when hunting public we typcially will get there real early and have a long wait before legal shooting time. In that waiting period it can get cold, so a portable blind with a built in heater would be great.

I could continue, but I'll wait to see what kind of Engineer program you're in.

motion issues for decoys when windless days. Jerk strings and decoy cords show too much when water isn't rippling.
