I'm sitting here at work watching the rain, again, and was wondering how the water situation was over there for you guys. Are some of you still really dry? I would say the drought is over in north Louisiana. We have been getting a good amount of rain this winter, which is good, but now I'm getting a little tired of it. I hope the situation is better for you guys also.

I read this morning that much of the D/FW area has just been removed from having any drought condition. The vast majority of the rest of the state is still under drought conditions ranging from mild to severe.

But even the D/FW area situation is misleading as many area reservoirs are down significant amounts.

Bottom line, these rains have been very welcomed and extremely helpful but the drought situation ranges from precarious to dire over almost all of Texas.

Pasture conditions are improving with cool temps and moisture but tank water and surface run off is a problem still in others. As long as it keeps raining into the summer like it is then it will improve over last year. Last year in our area we were in the same shape at this exact same time. But it quit raining in mid Feb and did not rain till early fall again in many areas.

The winter in North Texas, according to the paper, is stacking up to be one of the top 10 wettest ever. Our reservoirs are at 82% of capacity compared to 67% in November, though some are still significantly lower than desired.

Where I hunt, which is west, northwest of D/FW, we have had way more than enough rain. All of our tanks are overflowing and water is standing everywhere. All of the dry creek beds were flowing yesterday and it is supposed to rain again today.

That said, the pastures have a long way to go to recover from the damage the drought caused. Lots of long term grass damage.

Just the same, even though it doesn't have a place to go, you won't hear me calling for the rain to stop... up

West Texas is still under a severe drought eventhough we ahve received a little moisture this winter. We have lakes in our area that are at 17% capacity, 4% capacity and one that is at a 1/2% capacity. So we are still in pretty bad shape out here.

Dry as a bone out west where I'm at. We have seemed to miss all the major rain storms that most of the state has gotten.

river is flowing, creeks are flowing, ponds are full... our main deer are usually taken care of, natural springs keep water trickling for them.

We've received 10+ inches in the month of January alone. So, we're looking better than we did before, without a doubt.

Lease in Llano County is looking great. Wild oats are EVERYWHERE! The back legs of the deer we shot this season were green from the poop chute scared The tank at my blind caught good water this winter which I'm hoping carries me long into the summer time. Here at home (east Bexar County) things are looking better as well. The oats we planted and fertilized are taking off again after having it grazed by the cows once already. Tanks are full and picked a lot of pecans this year. hoping for some good hay cuts because we sure are running low.

I read somewhere this morning that the ground has to be saturated at least a foot deep to get the runoff needed to start filling up reservoirs. Still going to take a lot more rain to get things filled back up.

The rains have been very spotty. Some tanks are almost full but only a few miles away, we have caught very little water. Have a neighbor that caught only enough water in one of his dried up tanks to make it a mud lolly. He had to fence it off to keep livestock out of it. Had predictions for a good rain this week but NADA. If we do not get good general rains this Spring, we are in a bigger wreck. I am still selling off cattle.

We are in bad shape still in San Angelo. Bunch of big mud holes that used to be good lakes. At the ranch it is green but mostly forbs and quite a bit of bitterweed. Our wells are holding steady and the oats came up good. I figure it will rain this month like it always does. (rodeo week)But I fear we are in for another summer like last year.We still need alot of rain.

500 acres in Cooke County & 600 in Erath. Ponds are full and winter grasses are coming. Grayson county looks good, tanks full.

North central and western Mills have had some good rains and most tanks and ponds with adequate watershed are full or close to full. Rescue and other winter weeds and grasses are furnishing both wildlife and livestock with grazing they haven't seen in a long while. City of Goldthwaite is still on stage three water restrictions (no outside watering) but reservoirs or much better off than they have been in some time.

Erath is looking better than I've seen in years, fields are greening up and ponds are overflowing...The deer are fat and the healthiest that I've ever seen. Like Navasot said, it could change in a heartbeat.

I have a place in Concho County (about 50 miles east of San Angelo). My well has been dry for several months. The guy at the well service company kinda contradicted himself. He told me that the well was dry, but then told me that there was 20' of water. He wanted me to drill a new well. The only problems I see in this are that it is half a mile from the house and there is no guarantee that he'll find water there. If it wasn't for my neighbor using his well to keep his fish pond full, I'd probably still have water. (Another of those people that think they are entitled to anything they can get.)

Lake Livingston is at full pool with all 12 gates open at the dam. Polk Co., Tyler Co. are doing well with all the major creeks running nicely. The big lakes to the East are still very low. Sam Rayburn is 9ft low and T.Bend is almost 8ft low. Lake Nacogdoches (my home lake) is still 10ft low. The lakes in Deep East Texas are still hurting for run off, so every rain we get is welcome. (Even if I can't mow my yard).

The recent rains have all of the tanks on the lease in Palo Pinto running over the spillways. It brought the big tank up over 10 feet.

no matter how much rain we get now will not amount or do anything for us this summer if we dont get rain in may. my ponds maybe full but id rather them run over and be soaked up into the ground and get the water table back and soil moister back up
