LOL! YOURE NOT FROM AROUND HERE ARE YOU? NO, THERE ARE NOT ANY WILD QUAIL ANYWHERE NEAR DALLAS ANYMORE. CLOSEST PUBLIC PLACE IS THE MATADOR (ABOUT 4-5 HOURS) BUT I'M NOT SURE WHAT THE OPEN DATES ARE FOR QUAIL HUNTING THERE. IT'S BEEN 4 OR 5 YEARS SINCE I'VE BEEN THERE. NOT EXACTLY AWESOME HUNTING EITHER. THERE ARE A FEW PEN RAISED QUAIL HUNTING PRESERVES WITHIN A COUPLE HOURS FROM DALLAS. THE FLYING P IS ONE THAT I HAVE BEEN TO (ALSO 4 OR 5 YEARS AGO). CHECK OUT FLYINGPOUTDOORS.COM. GOOD LUCK!

Upland Bird Country, Corsicana is another. Actually, I've seen and heard some wild birds in Ellis county in the past year - BUT - there ain't enough to hunt.

If you are looking for wild, you are going to have to go to the panhandle (TX or OK) for Pheasants or SW Kansas for both. That is about as close as you are going to get for public land with any consistent bird numbers. Kansas has until the end of the month for their season and more public walk in hunting than just about any state in the US if you can handle the 6 hour drive.

There is one place close to dallas, the lyndon b johnson grasslands north of decatur, but there arent very many birds, but its a good place to go if you just want to get out. Also its not managed by the wildlife department so you dont have to have a public hunting permit. There is an office on hwy 287 in decatur where you can pick up a map and regulations.

Yes, but I am not sure going up to LBJ and walking around behind your dog holding a gun could truly be called hunting quail. More like a long walk on hopefully a nice day.

Don't get me wrong, I do it occasionally - but the only one that thinks we are going to find anything is my dog. And even he is starting to figure out its just a bad joke!

I even had 3 guys that swear they saw birds while deer hunting take me up to their spots and have not flushed a single quail this season. Starting to think that they shoud open a season on cow birds.

I find birds probably 75% of the time when I go there. Sometimes 1-2 coveys, sometimes none.
