Remington 700 action is the best production action on the market, there is a reason that most custom rifles built are based on the Remington action, and more aftermarket are made for that action, guess the Remington haters will say Remington pays for that too. rofl

It's still early... but this is sarcasm, right? Just making sure I'm not misreading this.

Yup. And the reason is that they absolutely suck out of the box and must be customized to amount up to a pile of dung.

Define best, and define production. This topic can definitly be debated. If you just look at the "best" part, there are better actions on the market than the Rem 700 design. The factory Tikka and Sako actions, I think, are a much better design with accuracy in mind. On the production side of things, the 700 is produced in high numbers. The 700 has been popular due to the military using them for a long time, and they work very well when outfitted with new stocks and barrels. This high volume allows parts and accessories for the 700 to be available, like stocks, bottom metal, and triggers, etc. There are other custom actions based on the 700 that use the 700 footprint, and enhance the features of a 700 to make it better. Take a Surgeon 591 action. They increase the amount of threading you need to screw the barrel into the action for more "grip" and mating surface onto the barrel. They close off the top of the action with a solid rail to increase the rigidigity of the action. They have a thicker recoil lug. And they are one solid piece. The 700 is a great action, and is like the Chevy 350 of actions, and will be around forever. But I think there are other options and designs out there.

I like the Tillable actions a lot, my biggest complaint with them is all that I've seen are their crappy dbm setup and I'm more of a hinged floorplate kinda guy.

video: looks to me like the barrel metal is not as good as the others.

The Actions on all the guns shown appear to hold up well.

after all, only the Rem and Browning barrels split. All the others much less "violent". IIRC at one time Tikka had a bad run of Barrels, and some blew under normal? use.

not that we may experince that, but really, it does say a lot about their barrel metal.

Yea, lots of aftermarket stuff for a 700 action. two ways of looking at that you know. Frankly, except for a super-trigger, I am not convinced a 700 action really needs anything else.
well, not for the 99% of us.

Military sniper rifle ? you do realize it is all about Cost and Lobbying. I know that, been involved in it. Not everybody wants a military contract. Not everybody will get the contract even if they bid less.

Not trying pizz or dizz you rem guys. I get out-shot by a remmy Man all the time on varming hunts! Even though the poor firing pin fit leaves craters in the primer! lol.

Remington 700 actions are the most used by custom gunsmiths for several reasons. They are the most readily available because of numbers built and sold. They are the most affordable by far because there are millions of them in the marketplace. They can be modified pretty easily. Remington will sell actions only while most companies will only sell barrelled actions.
Mauser was the action of choice for custom builders for the same reasons before 1975.
That said there is nothing wrong with Remington guns or actions, but they are not used simply because they are the best action made.

I have to agree with the asessments made here about Remington actions being the most plentiful, therefore the most used. This is true with other firearms such as Glock, for example. More product in circulation, more aftermarket support, etc. I love Remington rifles just as they are out of the box (I own a bunch). They make an awesome basis for a custom build as well as being easy to refurb (which I love to do). I am however starting to look closer at Sako/Tikka rifles. Smooth as silk and VERY accurate out of the box.

after actually watching the video my concern would beif all rifles were tested with the same calibers due to pressure variables.

The lesson most prevalent in the video is "Don't shoot a rifle with a blocked barrel".

Looks like the barrel taper is different on some of them. Thicker barrels should hold up better than a slim light weight one Does not look like an apple to apple test.
