Anybody know where I could get some deer blood? I bought a blue lacy pup and want to start training him. Unfortunately I did not save any blood from this season.

I'm located in the Mckinney area.

Thanks!

I do have some meat in the freezer (axis and whitetail) Guess that is an option just thought it would be better to have fresh?

Thanks,

It's a little late to be looking for fresh deer blood. About the only way to get fresh would be a "road kill" deer.

The froozen still works. Use it with my dog. If you know someome with mld permiys perhaps they can save you some. Liver drug around works well also

I've got a couple gallons right now I got from a taxidermist in McKinney. I've too have two blue lacys I'm training for tracking wounded game. Taking the UBT test end of next month time to see if the training and hours put in will pay off!

Oh and blood is blood. Cow blood or deer blood it really does not matter. However, I prefer deer blood.

And if it is a pup just do some liver drags to get it going and into it.

Go to the processor or find a fresh road kill and get a tarsal gland or two also. Freeze them and you can reuse them over and over again for additional scent if you have to use beef blood. A good trailing dog will put the blood scent to the scent of the deer it is tracking together after a while to follow the really sparse blood trails. I have seen Roy Hindes dog Jethro work when he was alive and he would follow both. He would sometimes literally put his nose to the ground on the scent on faint trails.

Well if you consider I was watching Jethro work then yes I did. Truly was a pleasure to watch him work his dogs.

I forgot to mention,I've got a female border-Collie that is a deer and hog tracking wonder, never been formally trained. I just tell her "Find the hog" and off she goes into the brush. When she finds it she starts barking until I arrive...Darndest thing.

I got a doberman that is our camp dog. He ate about 60 lbs of deer
meat over the season raw. It is too the point that we have to lock him up when we are field dressing deer.

Big Beckett!!
