Took my 11 yr old stepson with me. Got him an 870 youth last year and he got a bufflehead. Well today he was blow in his new teal call. I let him play some but we were at my hole so I said that's for teal knock it off. 10 seconds later 2 gw landed like magic. He got both in 1 shot right off water. And first question was is that considered a real duck? Like a big duck, I said yeah its not a diver. He was stoked. Then he went to sleep in blind. Got to pick up dekes cuz hole is solid bottom and shallow. He has accumulated his own bag of dekes and calls. He bought some gw ghg dekes his self. We didn't even have teal out. And I've yet to shoot any there. We had fun. Had to leave cuz my old lady is getn teeth cut out. Wisdom teeth. And my gun problem is that not wet shells. 887 is junk. Firing pin issues. Already sent back once. For friction in slide.

Why the diver hate!?

Oh i have no problem huntin divers. In fact takin a guy sunday the one lookin for buffleheads. There a blast. But the boy wanted to shoot a puddler:0. We been a few times but he had yet to kill one. . . .

The last was the end of a puddler hunt we took him and his cousin diver hutin. got His cousins first kill on video. Oh yeah if I can ever get a part of the video of clays first hunt it would send you all rollin. He got the 870 and we shot skeet , well when we went huntin he had 3 in shells and had never shot them. He hops up and fires and i mean immediatley is planted back in the chair. And he hops back up with a suprised look on his face. He was done witht hat gun til i suckered him with low brass and started slippin 3 in shells in and he didnt snap. Told him check his spent shells. Hes fun most of the time.

clarification before anyone says something smart. We were shootin skeet the next day and thats when i was slippin in duck loads. Not low brass while hutnin he wouldnt shoot the dam thing again that day.

VERY GOOD!! Thank you for getting those young men into waterfowling. Teach'em good.

By the way . . nothing wrong hunting with low brass if the steel flys fast enough to kill what you hit. The duck cant tell the difference!

Thanks. That's what we are doin in the morning. Gonna try the divers. I've made buffleheads, goldeneyes, and cans dekes and they are pretty good. With all the fisherman and weekend pressure I figure we can have some fun. And drakes in all 3 are good looking. My first diver hunt I was like hell no, I wanna hunt real ducks an hour and 14 divers later I was login it. That's been are follow up to slow mornings for awhile and anytime we take new people, old lady's etc, we start out on divers. Fast shooting but, not as critical decoying, calling, movement, etc. We use homeade dekes cuz they get shot up alot haha.

Divers do it for me. Post up some of your deeks.

Take my advice and get rid of that gun before next season. I sold mine because I think after one more trip of it effing up I would have made it take a swim in the bay.

Most dfinately will not be hunting with the nitromag next year. Looked good and that is as far as it gets. And slow as it has been having the misfires costing me birds has me in same boat as u, ready to toss it. Taking a guy off the forum diver hunting in morning to get a some buffleheads and goldeneyes. May take my bro n laws gun. With them fast lil birds a misfire is a miss. No catching it with next shot most of the time.
