Ok, so I got a hog trap. Im going to take it out tomorrow and set it with the door open so they can go in and out and get used to it. Im going to pour some corn all around inside it and outside around it.
I live about 2 hours away so i cant keep going back and putting corn in it.
What do you guys do to keep your traps baited so that the hogs keep going in an out of them? I can go back each weekend and put more corn in it but during the week its going to run out.
Would love to hear what you trappers do to keep the hogs coming back during the week.
thanks.

If you cant go back often, a guilotine type trap door with a feeder going would be best. leave for 2 weeks open then set trap.
I have the same issue as you and never catch more than 1 at a time if any.
Regular guy 8-5 by day, rednecking by night!

Dig a hole with post hole digger about 2-3 ft and fill with soured maize. Keeps em coming back. They will root and root in it. I assume your just leaving it open during the week then setting it on weekend while your there. The soured grain will keep em coming back.

I mounted a 5 gallon feeder on mine. It lasts about a week. Only cost like 35 bucks at academy.

The other guys are right. Short of putting some type of feeder out the corn on the ground won't last a week. It won't even last a day when they find it, they'll eat every piece of corn there is before they leave.
Also, only put corn on the outside initially to get them over there. You want them to get used to eating inside the trap, not around the outside. We will usually put a trail of corn going into the trap and after they find that the corn goes inside only.

So I went and got a bucket feeder and hung it above the trap. Tomorrow im going to duct tape some cardboard around the feeder to create a shroud to force the corn straight down instead of being broadcast out to the area. that should keep it in the trap.

I take two five gallon buckets and with the first one I cut a 1 1/2' hole in the bottom and mount my feeder. Then I cut the bottom out of the second one and screw the second bucket so the bottom is level with the bottom of the feeder motor. You can still reach your hand in to get to the timer/battery or spin the plate if it gets jammed up. Keeps the birds and coons from getting to the corn and makes a dinner bell when it goes off (loud when the corn hits the 2nd bucket) and all corn falls straight down into the trap. You can then wire the whole thing to the top of the trap.
If you ain't hunting, you ain't living right.
