Thinking about putting up some cattle panels around my pen where my deer feeder is. Make them about 2 feet high so that I can control the hogs better when hunting deer. I have a hog pen with holes dug in the ground about 300 yards from deer feeder. When I say pen I mean barb wire with T-post so that the cows can 't get to the corn. I notice that the hogs are turning up the dirt and making a wallo underneath my deer feeder. What is your take on this? I noticed that since the hogs have moved in that I don't see much deer at my feeder from my trail camera pics. The hogs seem to come more especially when it is raining or right after a rain.

Started out as an evening hunt in the stand. Ended up being a siesta til 9pm.

That's about par for the course. Of course I like to hunt hogs so . . .

Cattle pannels have worked for us, but they will eventually try digging under them.

Yes I had to panel mine, the hog took over and less deer, now hogs hardly ever come around my feeder.

Is that pipe over your existing feeder legs to keep the coons from climbing up to your feeder?

Yes, larger PVC pipe to keep the coons off the feeder.

Yep, I need to do that. I see them on my camera climbing up the legs of my feeder. Great idea passthru.

If you don't have time to cut and haul PVC, Crisco on the legs has worked for us, they can't stand it on their hands and feet.

The folks at Texas A&M recommend fencing at least 28 inches high to exclude hogs from a deer feeder.

I have two unwritten rules:
1.
2.

Standard hog panels are 34" high with smaller openings at the bottom. Work great for me. Only a VERY rare camera shot of one in a pen, compared to practically every shot being hogs before penning. Also work great for keeping out exotic sheep. They were draining my protien before penning.

We currently use panels on all of our feeders. They do a decent job but we have multiple pics of the bigger hogs jumping the panels. I have pics with the hogs in mid air.

We still have feeders that aren't penned, and hunt hogs year round at those. If we penned all feeders like the previous poster, we may have more jumpers too. In any case it went from a major issue, to an occasional nuisance, and deer had a spot to go that was pretty much hog free.
