I would like to do some varmint hunting sometime but only have a 7mm WSM and a 12 gauge. I figure the 7mmwsm will tear a yote to pieces but I wanted to see what you guys think. I have killed a yote with my shotgun while deer hunting. It just wandered up on me and I let her have it.

if your not selling pelts, then use the 7mm.

i've used a 300 win mag on yotes before. it tore them up pretty bad, but i dont sell pelts. the only down side with using big guns like that is ammo price.

i use a 223 and a 357 revolver for close shots.

Bama,
Bring that scatter iron along. I like to call them right in to your lap! Pattern it with #4 buckshot, and see how it shoots out to about 40yds, just incase it takes a few seconds for you to realize he just peed on your leg and you have to take a shot as he's leaving!

Use what you got it gives you good practice. I personaly get a kick seeing what the bullets do to those little guys. I also like getting them in shotgun range also, I use #4 turkey loads most of the time. Ive killed a yote at 54yrd with duck loads I forget what size.

shotguns are great for close range....alot of coyotes are killed within 40 yards anyway.

i've killed a coyote with my .270, did't tear it up any worse than my .22-250, but i prefer my model 70 or 700 for varmints

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I shoot coyotes with everything from an AR 15 in .223 to an AR 15 in .50 Beowulf. But my favorite is to shoot em with a bow.

I prefer a 30.06... They don't run off!

But, I only use that while in the deer blind. Otherwise, .223.

Now that was funny...I don't care who you are.

I shoot a lot of them with my .308 but prefer to shoot them with my .223, Model 112 Savage, bull barrel, syn stock and Cabelas 3-10 APG Series scope. I especially like my AR15 with a 30 rounder in there, don't aim, just follow them with the bullet trail!

Shoot 'em with whatever you got! This was a 270 shot at 125 yards...

I suppose he didn't run very far he's got ... or had ... a decent coat on him for a Texas yote.

Obviously you want a small non-expanding round like everyone else said, if you're trying to sell the pelt, but if that was the case, you'd most likely be trapping.

I've always been a big fan of the most efficient (which usually means largest, flattest shooting) round available. For hunting purposes that's usually any of the .300's or a 7mm Ultra Mag.

I've never shot at something and hit it 'too good' or had it be 'too dead'. Obviously, meat hunting requires some finesse, varmint hunting for the point of thinning them out does not.

Well if that's the way you want it, why not use something legal that you can get your hands on easily?

NOT that I would ever do this, but it does have some shock value!!!
