I'm moving to Georgia in July. I'm not familiar with Georgia waterfowl so I started looking. I even joined Georgia waterfowler. It's not looking real promising. Even the board members said I'm gonna miss Texas. From what it looks like it's mostly wooies and ringers. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to shift gears back to deer and pigs cry does anyone have any experience with the ft benning area or any pointers?

Can't help with any info on waterfowl info, but you're probably on the right track to focus on deer.

You're real close to Buckmaster HQ.

Buckmaster Inc
10350 Highway 80 E
Montgomery, AL

Given that area of GA and its relative closeness to AL I bet there are some monster deer.

Awww heck man, yeah thats darn good deer hunting but keep after those ducks. Makes it more of a challenge and will make you a better hunter / waterfowler overall. Who knows, you might really enjoy it...Good luck out there

You should consider getting a lifetime license in Texas if you think you would be coming back here to do any hunting.

X2. I've always thought that if I ever moved, I'd have to do that.

I grew up in middle GA and it doesn't compare to what we have here in TX. Fewer birds and less variety. Main issue is that you aren't on a major flyway. I primarily hunted flooded timber. Woodies and a few mallards were the norm. Ringers and the occasional bufflehead on bigger bodies of water. If I were you, I would check out the scene on the Chatahoochee river, which runs right through Columbus. Flooded timber, sloughs, and pockets along that river are likely your best bet. Lake Blackshear outside of Americus may also be worth exploring.

Looks like you will have a good population of resident geese that can be hunted.

If I had to move there I would be looking into updating my inshore saltwater gear. Speckled trout, red fish, and snook South of you. Blue fish and striper to the East. The D.o.D. sure moves y'all around often. bang
