I'm curious to you guys opinion regarding good night vision scopes. I've never owned one, but I'm looking to have one shortly. What brand names are good, and which ones should I stay away from.. Thanks for your input!

I second that with a close second being the morovision d760(6x) or the d740(4x)or the aquillius(sp). Magnification would be up to you and depend on how you hunt. With that said pay close attention to what type of tube you get installed because of the recoil ratings. An example would be the ITT pinnacle tube is only rated for 223 or 6.8spc because of the thin film technology. Most of the higher recoil guns you would want to go with an L3 tube or just a tube with a higher halo value. Talk to Jason at Ident marking and he will be able to fill you in better on the differences on the tubes or if you are close to Dallas just go by their shop, he does most of the demos on tues and thurs nights but better call to be sure he will be around

LMAO!! Not that deep my friend.. I'm not going to spend 5K on a scope, I'm sure I can find something in the 2K-3K range that will work just fine for night hog hunting..

Thermal.... LMAO! rofl

If you're trying to get into stalking or short-ish range still hunting - you may want to give one of these a once over...

http://www.fulton-armory.com/nightvisionsightusgianpvs-4nvweaponsight.aspx (There are bound to be better prices on these, talk to the West Fork Armory guys for sure - this unit is a 2nd generation scope with 3.6 magnification; with illumination you can make head/neck shots out to about 100-120, center mass considerably farther)

If you're going to be in your day blinds hunting at night, I would take a look at the ATN PS22-2 or one of the similar concepts. It's nice not to have to lock up one of your rifles as a dedicated night hunting weapon.

If you're mainly going to be stalking, you will probably want a monocular for scanning.

PVS-14 for spotting and D-740 or 60 for shooting

For 2-3K I would go with a pvs14 and an eotech. That way you could use the mono both helment mounted and on the gun. Call Jason @ Ident he can put whatever tube you would want in it and the d loc mount he has for it is real fast for attaching to the rail.

cool, i'm between taylor and thrall a couple of miles north of hwy 79. you use your nightvision more for pigs or yotes? i just started to get some pig activity back in the area.Just baited for yotes earlier, bout to go out and sit in the cold to see if i can bust a couple due to lack of wind and moonlight. How far does your setup work at night? Only nightvision i have used was a raptor that worked out to about a mile. spoiled me, and i can't afford one so it really sucks.

I've got a gen3 d760 which is pretty close to the raptor with the main difference being the raptor draws in just a little more light with the objective lens being so big. You've seen em those things are huge lol. In all honesty it all depends on the night. A pitch black night (cloudy and no moon) will limit you some but with good illuminator you can still see several hundred yards while on a clear night with just a little moon you can see what seems like forever. Also have 2
PVS-14's one helment mounted and one is on another gun behind an eotech. The main thing I like about the pvs's is that they are so versatile and can be used in a variety of set ups from weapon mounted to a helment with an ir laser on your gun, they too also draw in a lot of light and give good clarity but they are only 1x. The one mounted on the gun has a 3x magnifier attached to it and it cuts down on a little of the light that it draws in but not much.

On the psv14. Does anybody have a picture of the set up? Do yo need two helmet and gun to really make it worth it? Which eotech are ysall using and is it fine enough for small animals.
I'm thinkin anp22 or psv14. Which one?
