I am looking at some of these management hunt that offer Oryx with one horn missing. Can a Taxiderist add a horn even if you do not have one?

It can be done but it is very pricey. The money you safe on a one horned hunt you will spend on the horn replacement, and then some.

Hi old engineer
If you get you taxidermy done in SOuth Africa it's really not that bad. All they do is get you another horn too add.
I'll even get you one if you want. Were are you going to hunt? As your outfitter to supply you with a horn. Tell him you will take the package hunt ONLY if he can supply you another horn that can be shipped along with the rest of the stuff.
The only animals that you must becarefull of ( when it gets to changing horns) are Kudu and other spiral horned animals.
Send me an e-mail on info@inyokasafaris.co.za even if you are hunting with another Safari. I will gladly help you out!!

It is strange the way people always think that hunting in Africa is very complicated. O.K so Nature conservation can take their time to issue permits, but if you have a good shipping agent it's really no problem.
O and make sure your Proffesional hunter or Outfitter makes you sign a hunting register. I would check it too if i was you just to make sure everything is in order. Without a permit, nothing can be done!!!

You get what you pay for the taxidermist in Africa do pretty bad work and you end up paying about the same if not more getting your mounts in south Africa cause you have to ship the entire mount instead of a rolled up skins and skulls

x2 on what Africanguy said. Plus you don't have any control over what happens to your mounts over there whatsoever. If there is a dispute you are just plain out of luck. Always better to get it done local.

Look Guys i understand your point of view to get it done local. There are some amazing taxidermist in SOuth Africa as well, but i think like in most Countries, they take on too much work and start rushing things.
Anyway, the Oryx horn can be done it wont cost a lot. Just get another horn, that's the same size or slighty longer. If its longer, just take some off the bottom and you got what you wanted.
Every property that has Oryx, have oryx that die of od age or some sickness now and then. Dont let the Outfitter rip you off with this horn story either. If he can't get you a horn, find another Outfitter, there's lots of them!!
