New to this part of the forum. Usually in the duck forum.
Trying to take my dad on a quail hunt for a b-day present. I live in Dallas, he is in Tyler.
Can anyone give some good suggestions on places around Dallas or East Texas to go on a guided hunt.

Or, are we going to have to go to West or South Texas for this?

That sounds like a great birthday gift.
I don't know of any wild quail anywhere in East Texas. There may be some hunts for released birds in the area-I'm just not aware of any.
I live in Tyler and I have not seen or heard a wild quail in Smith County in about 20 years. Not aware of any wild quail anywhere east of the metroplex.
Maybe some of the knowledgeable folks on the THF will have better news for you. Good luck.

I realize it will be a released hunt and don't have a problem with it.

TGR Gamebird is around the corner from my parents house. Have driven by there but never see any cars, does not look like they are very busy.

look at the Chicken Ranch in Frankston, just 26 miles from Tyler. I guide there and we have a good time. The web site is www.chicken-ranch.net. Make sure you type it in that way other wise you will end up at the other chicken ranch in Vegas. They also have all shotgun sports. Allen who posts on this forum also has a hunting preserve that does a good job also. It is located outside of Hubbard. If you have any questions you can call me at 903/521-1330, the Chicken Ranch at 903/876-3291 or Allen at 254-717-2946. Good luck.

Not sure how much hunting he does now, I know he is training pointers full time now for other people. I sent my dog there for some things I needed to have corrected with my dog. He did a very good job with dog training. He might give you a good deal on a hunt so he can run some of his training dogs. Worth a try. that is TGR.

Well I hope they had a good hunt.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.
Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Hidden Lakes Hunting Resort is right between Dallas and Tyler. It is the best place I've been to in years. www.hiddenlakeshuntingresort.com
