What can you use to get the skunk off a Garmin collar. I'm not sure the sender, battery etc. is water proof? But I'm sure the collar part stinks (not as bad as Ace). Thanks

This is really funny. I think I remember that you have the DC-30 which has the webbed collar. The collar is difficult to change our. Get a new DC-40. They have the coated plastic collar.

Did Ace point the skunk first?

Believe it are not Dawn dish washing liquid will get the skunk smell off anything that you can get wet.

Last month my husband had Cash out at the camp that night. He was busy rigging decoys and didn't notice the dog had wondered out to the pasture. Cash comes trotting up and then my husband smells skunk.
His first thought was that the skunk is close by. He hurried up and told Cash to get in the camper so it wouldn't get sprayed. Then realized that he didn't smell skunk outside any more. And had an OH CRAP feeling. Cash had the whole camper smelling like skunk. He didn't have anything to clean him with other than dawn. It took almost all the skunk odor off him.

Best I have found for removing skunk odar from dog is a mixture that was posted on the forum.

1/3 cup Backing soda
1 quart bottle of peroxide
1/4 cup Dawn dish eashing liquid.

Dawn does a good job but with a little help I think it does a little better.

The formula that kmon 1 posted above will take all the smell away
and my dogs go swimming in thiers all the time and I have washed
c??p off of them several times and no ill effects they are supposed to be waterproof so that formula should work on collars
as well as dogs.

Frabreze. No joke. Its easy and works. It's not a real bird season if a dog doesn't get sprayed.

Did Ace point the skunk first?

I don't really know but it ended what was a fun morning. Got the pleasure of hunting with a couple of new friends from La. Got into birds pretty fast but strange setup. Ace pointed and single left her as we approached, then 50- 100yds away she pointed again a single and one of the boys dropped it and she made a nice fast retrieve. She pointed again some way away and another single (got two dogs backing, nice dog work).

Guessed a hawk or a coyote got them spread out. She was running one heck of a race and made a cast to the front that the GPS said was 360yds and said she was pointed. Waited a few seconds to be sure she wasn’t moving and went to her. 50 yds from her here she came, frothing at the mouth and stinking up the joint. So I guess she pointed it but just not sure.

Well our youngest vizsla got her first taste of skunk this weekend. She caught scent of something in the tall grass. My other V thought she must have something good and joined her. Lucy started backing up and that's when I saw it. That darn dog had the skunk by the tail with it hind legs off the ground and its front legs going ninety miles an hour. She refused the Leave It command and I had to nick her to get her to turn it loose.
I had to wash both dogs in the ditch in the field.

I would bet there is money to be made if someone had an skunk avoidance clinic.

I blame it on you. Breeding pups with such a prey drive that they won't even turn loose of a skunk.
