Anybody ever try hooking up a regular security light..dusk to dawn that works off electricity by using a power inverter..a twelve volt marine battery and a twelve volt solar panel?

No, but I have made a contraption with some wireless motion sensors. You put the sensor at the feeder and plug the "brain" in between a lamp and an outlet in the house. When the pigs come out, the lamp comes on. Then its time to shoot away!

120v lights use a ton of watts; Inverter will eat-up the battery charge, even if the light is off; solar panel won't be able to re-coup charge, unless you have a HUGE one, or charge it for a week (with inverter off). Way better (simpler & cheaper) to stick with straight 12v lights - even better would be 12v LEDs - they make some now that are plenty bright (and diff colors red/green), and amp draw is very low - a 7ah 12v SLA (battery) and $20 solar charger would be plenty to run all night long. ---->Link to powerful RED led bulbs
