I started to get into predator hunting last year and have had decent luck calling in coyotes and fox (no bobcats yet). most of my successful hunts have been early morning or late afternoon. The few times i have set up and night, i have let the call run for 10 - 15 minutes and then shined the area with my spotlight. every time i have had a critter close by they take of doing 90 mph as soon as the light hits them and i never get a shot.

outside of night vision and thermal scopes, what approach or strategies do you guys use when calling in the pitch dark?

Thanks for any tips

I'm thankful for the things i have and all the things i don't

Check out our Hogzilla Lights. Using the green or red will help reduce the spooking caused by spotlighting.

Keep the light above them and lower it onto your target before taking your shot will get you better results.

What kind of call are you using?

Try scanning higher up with the light, just enough to get eyeshine. Most of the time the critters will stand and look at ya then rifle

Check out the bowlite products...i use the G3 green and it works great for any night hunting..its compact and you can buy one light with three mounts for your rifle, bow, and bowfishing rig..or either one....the bowlite offers two different stages for close quarters or long shots...you will love it

Leave your light on the whole time you call. Most times a animal will respond in the first few minutes. If you aren't running the light the first 10 min you are missing alot of the action. Most animals will spook if they come in a field with no light and then you turn on a light. If the animal comes into a field with a light already running they have pretty much commited and are less likely to spook.

What he said. Also the light is like your camo at night. If its shining in the animals eyes he can't see you or the truck. If the light is not on he can see everything. Also make sure nothing gets downwind or there gone.

I'm using a spitfire call by fox pro

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into some other light options and try leaving my light on and above ground level.

Exactly. A lot of people won't turn the light on because they think they're hidden when it's off and they're wrong. Would you honestly believe that an animal that hunts almost exclusively at night can't see your truck sitting out in a field?

Leave the light on, scan quickly and look for eyes then keep the light on them.

Good luck!

I've been looking for kill lights for my new m&p. Thank- you for posting about the bow lights, and hogzilla lights! I do have questions about both.

First hogzilla. Do they come in a package that would include both colors, and what about plain white? Also do they sell ar style mounts?

Bowlight...what's the difference between bow light combo and rifle combo besides price and the attachment? Looks to me like it's the same flashlight. I shoot bow and my m&p so buying the 3 light combo and a gun side mount for 13 bucks is a lot cheaper than the 2 light gun bow combo....am I missing something?

Thanks for the info guys!
