Almost bought a browning abolt in this caliber but didn't know anything about it. Your imput is highly valued. Any thoughts?

Had one and sold it. It had feeding problems and ammo selection sucks. I replaced it with a .223 Rem and could not be more happy. For extra speed (similar to WSSM levels) I shoot Fiocchi 40 gr. V-max (3650 fps).

The following input from me is probably has very little value.

I don't understand what the advantage of the 223wssm has over a 22-250. I have a 22-250 and shot the 223wssm and I didn't see a bit of difference. My cheap butt don't want to pay that much more in ammo for merely about 4-5% increase I velocity when shooting identical bullets.

The WSSM case will fit in a much shorter action, like an AR-15 platform, and it has a more aggresive shoulder angle, which claims to improve accuracy. It does offer a little more performance over a 22-250. But the WSSM ammo is more expensive, and the brass is not that good of quality. I have played with a few 223 WSSM and they did shoot very good.

The 223WSSM has the disadvantage of Winchester brass being what is available. Reloading data goes up to 4500fps with 40gr bullets and case capacity is less than one grain below the 224/6mm better known as 224TTH which is promoted as a good deer round by the Texas Trophy Hunters crew. I jsut wish that winchester and Browning had used a little faster twist barrel, for heavier bullets.

I have one of the winchesters in the safe I might get going for pigs over the summer or something.

I love the little 223WSSM. Mine is a Browning A-Bolt II stainless stalker. For awhile it was my primary varmint/predator rig. Killed one of my biggest Boars ever with it too using a 64gr Winchester Power Point.

What I really love about it is that you can pick up ammo pretty cheap at gun shows. Its not a very popular round so when you find it on some of the dealers tables they want to move it. I can usually pick up the silver box stuff for around $10 and the Supreme line for around $15.

As mentioned above due to the fat case size, feeding problems are issues, as well as the cartridge having pressure issues. Ballistics are similar to a 220 swift, which IMO is one HECK of a varmint round... But if I had my choice would go with what is a proven cartridge like the swift, however if you end up getting it would be interested to see how it preforms!!!
