Is a 257 wby mag a long or short action? No Good or Bad tell me what you know or think about that Cal.

Awesome caliber, if I was hunting somewhere that 400 yard shots were commen I'd be owning one......or any Weatherby cal. for that matter. Very flat shooting.

But since I don't, I own a 257 roberts. Ammo is hard to find here, but it's still cheaper than Weatherby ammo. The roberts is good enough for me, but the 257 wby. smokes a 257 rob. in every way possable.

Nothing like hunting at 2,800 mph!

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

It's fast and it kills. I think the most overlooked factor is something not brought up much in these discussions of shells made by Roy Weatherby. IT'S THOSE RIFLES--IF YOU EVER SHOOT ONE--THEY ARE VERY ACCURATE RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. You have to shoot one to know what I am talking about. Something about them makes them easy to shoot a good group with at the range.

I own a .257wby and got to take it out and really put it through some testing this year

This season its killed

210lbs 10pt buck
I believe 6 doe (longest shot 417yds)
3 hogs

Once you have the brass you can load GOOD ammo for $17.00 a box and thats with PREMIUM bullets

Weatherby came out with a value priced load for .257wby and you can buy it online for $36.99 a box or on the shelf at academy for $39.99 and if you dont reload you can sell the brass here for $10 a box FAST!

At 200yds a .257wby has more energy with a 100gr bullet then a .270win does with a 130gr bullet!!!

I think the recoil for the .257wby is a little lighter than a .270win with a much flatter trajectory and great on traget results.

This caliber has EXPLODED in popularity in the last 10years and for good reason; it was also Roy Weatherbys favorite caliber, and its more than enough for what you will hunt in Texas.

Roy weatherby saids "If you have a .300wby and a .257wby then you have every animal in northamerica covered."

I own both and I think he was right

Think kampfeld spiraled it...

Think its a mauser action, can't remember who built the barrel.... I should of bought that rifle when I had the chance...

Dwayne should be around shortly to correct me if I'm wrong...

Exotic you kill any thing else with the 80's?? Shot a doe last week two inches behind both shoulders...bullet never touched either and still managed to ruin one...all blood shot... entrance was nickel, exit was close to half dollar

i haven't shot anything else yet. my gun is broken down and working on upgrading it now. new timney trigger installed, new minox za5 scope (which i like alot so far - time will tell though) and trying to decide on the stock. i want an adjustable LOP on it so my son and wife can shoot it. muzzle brake and duracoat are next though.

i may get the axiom stock due to having the quick changeable LOP. i really like traditional stocks though.

sprial fluting
Cut barrel threading
Recrown barrel
Kampfeld caliber marker
Cerakote black finish

My rifle has the Timeny trigger and its GREAT!!!

I have owned a 257 weatherby for 10 years that a friend of mine built for me and I can tell you it is an awesome round and when you got plenty of brass ammo is no big deal. Will probably not use another caliber for deer again. By the way I have 17 differnt calibers and they all sit in the safe. My 257 is by far my favorite.

Have hunted with the 257 wby for a long time... Fast, accurate, flat shooting, and wont beat you up. Can do just about everything a 300 win mag will do without the recoil. One of the best - if not the best Texas whitetail cartridge, IMO.

My son bought a Vanguard a year ago in .257 Weatherby. Mounted a Nikon Profstaff 3-9 x 40 on it. It shoots 1/4" at a hundred with factory loads.

I have shot it and it kicks about like my 25-06, in other words, not noticeable enough to pay attention to.

I would own one if I hadnt been on a search for a .264 Win Mag

I only plan on buying 2 more rifles in my life a .257 wby mag and a 25-06. I have 2 30-06's a couple 30-30's and a .257 Roberts. With those 2 rifles added to my collection I should be able to hunt anything I want. I'am a big fan of .25 calibers and my .257 gets used more than any of my other rifles. I haven't hunted with my 30-06's in 10 years or more because I think there too much rifle for Texas deer but I'am gonna hang on to them in case I get a chance to hunt bigger game. The Roberts isn't even close to the Roy and I haven't had a deer take a step with it inside 100 yards. If I had a place to hunt with long shots I would have a Roy already.
