I have decided on an AK-47 for a ranch/hog rifle. I am looking for recommendations for manufacturer, models, etc.
Price range: $500 to $750. And will add lower powered scope for out to about 150 yards.

I would recommend a converted saiga (pistol grip conversion, so they are a normal AK). They will be real tough to beat. They are a factory Russian AK, not a kit gun like a WASR.
Thats all an expensive Arsenal is. Its just a fully converted Saiga.
I love them, I have several and sell a ton of them.
They have side mounts already one them, or add a dog leg TWS gen 2 rail and you're in business.

gamer1112 - who in waxahachie? Where did you read that? You may be thinking about the saiga 12's. Yes, the shotguns can be finicky, but the rifles are 100% reliable. At least the ones I have shot and seen.

Dallas - I think you may be right. Sorry for the confusion, I have been researching for several hours. Is there a specific model?
gamer1112 - Thanks

Not really, they really only have one model (in different calibers). When they are imported they are in neutered form. Once converted back to pistol grip, they're awesome and are a factory Russian AK.
The Century WASR's etc you see for sell at alot of places, have US receivers, barrels, etc. The fit, finish, and performance is better on the Saiga.

I was thinking about buying a Saiga. How hard is it to make them use AK mags?

A Polish 1960 milled fits your budget. I own one and it's a very smooth, reliable and surprisingly accurate rifle. The bolt is like butter and never a single hiccup.

I was thinking about buying a Saiga. How hard is it to make them use AK mags? All you have to do is add a bullet guide. And may have to file a tiny bit on the mag release. All in all its easy. If buy one converted, this will already be done most of the time. My favorite ones are the .223 ones.

No, but there is an adaptor thats available for them that will allow them to take AR mags. MSA makes the adaptor here in Texas.

I was just looking at the Saiga thread you were commenting on. Thanks for the info.
