I am looking at (3) different rifles in .338 Win Mag and would like opinions, comparisons, & reviews on these ONLY. All are stainless steel w/synthetic stocks.
#1 - Savage #116 FCSS
#2 - Howa #1500 w/Hogue stock
#3 - Ruger #77 Hawkeye
Thanks!!

ruger all the way.
mine has never let me down, neither had any of the others we owned.
imo i think when you start to get into that caliber of rifle, its important to have a controlled round feed. I've had jams with my remington and one with a push feed winchester, never with my ruger.
i can load it upside down if i wanted to. that to me is a huge buying factor

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

If you sell your gun down the road you need to look at resale value
the Ruger is going to hold its value the best, then Savage and Howa
they all shoot about the same
if you want to wrench around on your gun down the road the Savage will be your best bet, then Ruger then metric threaded Howa.

I like my Howa rifles. They all shoot very well. The Savage is also a good one. I'm not a big fan of the Ruger rifles, though it is personal preference. I would head to a gun store to try to handle each of the 3 rifles if possible. Then make you mind up from there.

If you don't ever intend on selling it or don't care about looks I would probably go with the Savage. They just tend to not hold their resale value as well as other brands. It's hard to argue with Savage's accuracy though. Howa would be my next choice.
I too am not a ruger fan other than a 10/22

I would compare weights and think about how you will use it.
My Howa/Hogue (308) kicks significantly less than my Savage 99 (308) but is about 2 pounds heavier.. I use the Howa for the stand and the Savage when I'm mobile.

I have 2 Savages Weather Warriors, 1 Ruger 77, 1 No. 1 Ruger all with a break..a neccisity..All shoot well...The Ruger 1 and one of the Warriors will shoot 1/2 moa groups w/Barnes X..They are not picky...The 77 is more finicky...I'd go with a Ruger for two reasons...resale, and bbl lgth..I also would get a break on it before I ever even shot it..The one I gave my son I got Ron Bartlett, Vais Muzzlebreaks to install one of his...the No. 1 had one when I bought it at a gun show..It outshoots all of the others..I usually use 185gr X bullets..DD
