Has any one tried fishing for a little bit in the dark before a hunt. When I am out setting decoys I see alot of fish. They look like catfish and gar.

Nope, would be a good time to catch a big one(blue cat) but always too focused on the birds. Fish are second from Sept till Feb to me.

Best time to catch big blues is in winter. Usually in deep water.

I like to turn my decoys into jug lines adds motion to the spread when you get one hooked up

Several years ago I hunted with a friend in a dead tree reservoir. We hunted this club for three years. We killed a ton of ducks, but even in duck rich northeast Louisiana, it can get slow some times. When there were lulls in action or just not many ducks, we would fish inside our blind. We would turn around and fish in the boat slip. This reservoir was full of bass, bream, and crappie. We used sticks with jigs tied on about 4 feet of line. We would usually take home more White Perch than ducks. Some days we would bring home 20 to 30 crappie and as many bream we would want to mess with.
