For those of you that book hunts somewhere, how important is the lodging and the meals and if you have real good meals and atmosphere, does this make a hunt better for you? I guess I assumed it was important just b/c it is important to me. What's your thoughts?

I can bring my own food, but a bed, hot water, and heat & a/c are nice

In my 25 years of being on a lease and being one of the cooks, there were two of us, I'll take the all inclusive deal every time. I also cook today for hunters at another lodge and I own a lodge and can't get away from cooking unless I travel to another ranch and keep my mouth shut about cooking!!!

i prefer to do my own cooking, but have the lodge and hot shower for sure. the last 2 years i have been on package hunts where the meals were included. the food was great, but just too much eating all the time. i like a good dinner but not a huge lunch w/ it. to me - lodging is important to help offset total costs.

LMAO! I made a spicy spaghetti casserole for these guys on their first hog hunt not knowing poor wittle Scotty couldn't handle a little red pepper.

i would rather have to cook my own food and deal with less than stellar accomodations if the game was excellent. i pay to come hunt, not to eat well and sleep in luxury(though that helps).

on most deals, i try and find adequate accomodations, but not overboard

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Lodging's #1. Food...well, as long as I eat, I'm happy. I don't need a 5-star outfit or fancy 12-course meal. Just give me a samich and let me hunt!

Could care less about any of it. Just as easy for me to pull my travel trailer in or sleep in a tent and do my own meals.

I don't mind being Camp Bitch.

Being on a hunt where lodging and meals are included means that the hunter has to bring less stuff and is not wasting hunting time setting up camp and cooking meals.

I don't care what ANYONE says, I have spent enough time above 7000 feet in the Rockies to be well aware how much it means when you top that last ridge and see camp all lit up and know that there is hot food, cold beer, and a warm bed, and you don't have to do one damn thing but set back and enjoy it.

I will take more hunting time over jerking around with meals or setting up and breaking down camp, ANY DAY.

CH is right on long hunts up in the mountains. I too have had the chance to have to do the cook after dark, clean up and hope you can get enough rest to get up a 4am to hike 5 miles in the dark after cooking and cleaning up for breakfast and packing lunch thing. It's nice to have it done for you but realistically, I won't afford that. For short hunts, 2 or 3 days, I can live on sandwiches, foil pouch meals grilled on a cheap gas grill, sleep in a bag in the back of my truck if need be. I go to hunt and if the hunting is not good all the fancy linens and decorated plates ain't gonna make it worth my money.
All things being even though I would pay a fair shake for a decent bunk and shower. Where it'll get sticky is when we start defining what we see as a fair price.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

I think heat and a/c are the most important for sleeping. A good place to get out of the elements is huge if the elements are not in your favor like rain, wind, cold, etc.
I personally like a camp atmosphere over a lodge.
Food should be good but simple,
simple but good foods for the main course
steak or fajita, beans, tortillas, BEER thats about it.
Nobody is ever going to say the food is bad.
It depends on the class of hunting also, if it is a trophy hunt at lodge I expect more if it is a meat hunt who cares!

As you get older and spend more time in the woods, having the meals ready when you get to camp, even on the short term hunts, becomes damn important.

A lot of the younger folks run all over the place getting their chit together and driving for umpteen hours and then setting up a camp and trying to get meals cooked and still get in some hunting time.

Ever wonder why in the hell those folks are so tired after a weekend hunt??????

I like to bring the taters for you to cook. I should have said I would rather bring the food to cook as a group. More fun and if Loras cooking it I know it'll be good!!!!!!

I am going with Crazyhorse on this one. If I am paying for lodging and food I expect to be up to the standards I am being charged.

My idea of roughing it now days is "Where is the key to the Holiday Inn Express?" My "tent" better have at least wood walls and heater if it is cold, AC if it is hot. Running hot and cold water and flush toilet, and a wake up call service if I want it. Do I need to add more or do you get the idea?

look at that crawdad back out of here.

Yes, you like bringing potatoes that one of them would feed half the pygmies in Africa.

I have been in more than my share of hunting camps from South Texas to above the Arctic Circle and east to Newfoundland, and I will take a camp with meals and lodging over a D-I-Y any day.

When feeding lil brother its either that or a 20# bag of taters!!!!!!!!!!!!! No crawdading you know I'm right. I think we all have more fun fixing what we all brought to eat than hunting everytime we are in camp.

Speak for yourself kimo-slabbe.

If I am hunting, yes. If I am killing, NO.

Little bit of red pepper, geeesh there were a ton of them. J/k But I do have to say that for the number of times I've been with you and Bigbow I never left either place hungry or thirsty.
