If your like me and like to save money or are just bored this worked pretty well for me.

I used a 1-1/2 inch wood boring bit and drilled more than a dozen holes in any 2x4. You can make them as deep or big as you want. I made mine a little too deep so I just poured less lead in them as I went.

I had access to a bunch of old tire balancing weights from the local mechanic but I also used some of my old strap weights I had on Texas rigs. Only bad part is they have steel clips but I just left them in the molten lead and the lead poured right out leaving the clips.

Melt them down on a propane burner or barbeque pit. It doesnt take much heat at all. It puts off some nasty fumes so I stayed upwind.

Pour into the 2x4 with welding gloves and pliers. Then, I just beat them out with a hammer on the other side.

I trimmed them with some side cutters and then drilled a 1/4" hole in the center. I will use weed-eater string, cord crimps, and then texas rig the remaining decoys I have. I made about 75 in a couple of hours. The board will start to crack after a few pours but I just turned it over and used the other side. Hope this is helpful.

That's exacly the kind of idea I've been looking for. Awesome. I have a bunch of old lead wrap weights that I've been wanting to melt down for texas rigs.

I have a new project for tonight. wink

Nice job. My Dad made his own weights similar to this years ago. One thing he did was he put a wire loop down into the lead before it hardened. The loop was big enough to allow him to fit it over the head of the decoy on storage. That way the weights weren't loose and they never got tangled up in the decoy bag. up

Using a cheap muffin pan works great too. U can set a fishing swivel in it and have something to tie off to

Good idea. Can we see a pic of a finished weight?
