Ok - first, I dont have the 4 wheeler yet just trying to relay what I have been told about the 2005 Kawasaki Bayou 250 he will be giving me this year. He told me that the 4 wheeler fouls plugs every 8th or 10th use because it has a "California" mandated carb and the only way to fix the problem was to buy a new carb. He is very frugal (putting it midly) so he has just been replacing plugs. A Kawasaki dealer is who told him about this. It really makes no sense. Do any of you know if there are 2 different models of carbs on these 4 wheelers - one for California and the another for the rest of the world? I know Cali has a lot more rules and regs but I just found this story really "out there" but didnt want to dig in too far. I did some research and found some threads about plug fouling in these models - some solutions have been to get hotter plug. Sure seems like a carb job would correct the fouling issue. Have any of you heard of any issues like this with this make and model? The way my uncle spoke - the dealer seemed to say this was a pretty common issue...... All I know is I gotta get this problem fixed cause last thing I want to do is have to jack with plugs every other hunt or get stranded some where cause it screws up. Thanks in advance.

Yes, there is one specifically made to meet California's strict emissions standards. If its fouling plugs it's probably running too rich. You may have to pull it off and clean . If that does not work, I suggest a repair shop.

try adjusting the carb settings. they might have some kind of limiter on them that will need to be broken. once you tune it, your troubles should go away.

Before you throw too much money at the carb, try a higher heat range (hotter)spark plug.

Harley Davidson Motorcycles.....the most efficent way to convert gasoline into noise, without the side effects of Horsepower.

Plugs don't usually foul from the fuel unless the carb is flooding terribly. I would suspect some kind of EGR system, cat converter or using oil. I owned a 99 until about four years ago, tough little machine. b
