Lok aound at some of the posts before you buy one.. Lots of issues with them as fas as I can tell..Spend a little more and get a remiongton or a browning. Just my 2 cents.. Steve

yep, look around..I have one, and had to send it back to the factory for some parts replacement. But it has been absolutly great since... Good luck Clicky

Yeah if you don't mind sending a new gun back with the hope they fix it go for it. A lot of reports I read early in the year say they came out with a new M2000 that didnt have the issues the old one had....but it seems people are still sending them back for repairs with very high frequency. For me it's not worth the savings. For about the same price maybe less...maybe more look at getting a used Baikal MP153 or a new Remington SPR453...it's the same gun but now Remington does the importing. That's probably the only cheap gun I'd recommend...it has a 3.5" chamber and almost all reviews from owners are good.
I take it if you are looking at the Stoeger it's because you are trying to get a semi auto and not spend much money. The gun I mentioned is a good option but after that you kind of get what you pay for with shotguns. Cheap guns are often....cheap.
About the only other really cheap semi auto waterfowl shotgun that has good overall reviews that you could look at is the Mossberg 935...it also has a 3.5" chamber but it would be only a duck/goose gun because it doesnt shoot 2 3/4" 1 1/8oz or lighter dove/target loads.
I'm a pretty frugal person but when it comes to shotguns I tell people to buy as much of a gun as you can afford and not go cheap because a one year, two years, 10 years from now you won't be regreting buying that more expensive gun...but if you go cheap you might always wish you did spend that extra few hundred.

I've owned one for three months and already having misfiring issues. It's going back for repair and probably sell it once it comes back.

I have the Rem SPR453 and have been very happy. I have used light dove loads (limited several times)and took my first green head with a 3.5 a few week ago and have had zero problems. Wal-Mart has them and I paid $368.

We call them the vodka gun since they are russian made. They are not the best looking gun but they get the job done for a really low price.

The trick with the 2000 is to completely take it down and clean it BEFORE putting any rounds through it. If you try to shoot it with that cosmoline still in it you will have problems.
That includes taking the bolt apart like the book says cause the grease will gum up the firing pin/spring. Once you've put it back together take it out and put a couple boxes of heavy dove loads through it. Then take it home and clean it all over again.
I picked one up when I got tired of fighting rust on my benelli. Have not had any problems with it. They're not put together as well as some other shotguns so proper break in is important. But done right you will be glad you bought it.

I looked everywhere for that remington and could not even find them online. I ended with the Baikal name, same gun, did not matter to me really.
if you can just walk into a walmart now and pick one up your a lucky man. 9 months ago they were no where to be found

No the "trick" is to buy something else. I don't care what anyone says about the gun, it already has a stigma. If 250 rounds at Alpine shooting trap, skeet and 5-stand, and an average of 40 rounds a week since the end of Teal season isn't enough break-in, then I don't know what to say. From posts at other forum sites the M2000 are hit or miss. I thought I had a good one until the misfires occurred recently.... I'd say don't buy it.

Unless you like being piss** off and having a "single shot" semi-auto, spend a little more money and buy something else. My M2000 was nothing but a headache. I bought a Franchi and absolutely love the gun.
Why the hell should I have to press 1 for English!!??

Did you do the breakdown like the book says? Doesnt matter how many rounds you put through it. If you didnt take the spring and firing pin out of the bolt and clean the cosmoline off of it with solvent and put a light coat of oil on it it's going to gum up after a few rounds. Thus the misfires because the firing pin and spring cant move like they should.

DuckDawg...I think you just got one of the good ones. I think for most the first thing they will do when a gun starts acting up is break it down and clean it.
All makes and models of guns will have lemons from time to time...just seems the 2000 has a very high lemon factor.

Sorry... Grew up using that word to describe the packing grease that comes on new guns. That's my Grandad's influence showing through again.   It's what they used on the Garand in WWII... like the wiki thing says. You're probably right about the Stoeger. They're not assembled as well as the other spahgetti guns so break in is more important. Thorough cleaning and putting a couple boxes of heavy loads through them to help the parts mate up better seems to prevent many of the problems. But most people dont want to put that much effort in to a new gun. They just want to take it out of the box and start killin' stuff. If it's hit or miss then I must have hit. Because after busting several boxes of clays and some dove and duck trips I havent had any problems with my 2000. Which is why I'd recommend it to anyone....

Second Duck Dawg...Didnt want to spend the money on a SBE, so I went with this...I was sick and tired of my 1100 [censored] up so I got this gun. Very easy to clean..no rust....no problems...JMHO

I believe the trick to the Stoeger (and ANY brand new gun)is what Duck Dawg stated. I did the same to mine when I bought it. Took it straight home and completely stripped it down and cleaned all the packing grease out. Broke it in over dove season and have not had one single issue with it. I have done this on a couple "problem" guns this forum swears at and have been overly happy with the performance of these "problem" guns with not a single issue that everyone claims. Maybe I am just lucky.

I agree partly with what everyone has to say about the gun. If you go the the Benelli forum you'll see all the issues brought up about the M2000. But in my case it is not due to lack of cleaning or break-in. I was an Army grunt for 8 years, I know the importance of having a clean weapon. To top it off today, at the same level of cleanliness as last week, I shot a box, of the same rounds I always use , without any problems..so yes it is hit or miss, more miss since I didn't hit one coot, not a one
