I have a Redfield, and must say it good and clear but the adjustment knobs are junk. Trying to sight it in is needless to say a real pain, the adjustment knobs are no where accurate. So I'm looking for the best brand/scope for between say $200-$300? Thoughts opinions?

Nikon has increased the light gatherining capability of their Pro Staff scopes and put them in the performance class of scopes that cost a lot more.

You can definitely get better glass, but the cost/performance ratio is several times higher for just a little more light gathering capability.

dosen't have those cheap finger adjustments(i hate those), and holds a zero

Lately with some of these sales the Bushnell Elite 4200 is a very good deal. I have 3 of them.

I'm a low budget hunter but having been hunting in Colorado for a while I just can't get away from the fact that the beeter the glass the better off you'll be. Obviously you still have a lot of work to do to make that expensive glass pay off. HOWEVER!

There are some deals out there, check this link out - http://www.samplelist.com/

Cabela's still has it for $199. Not as good as the $149 they had previously but still one of the best deals out there.

I've got one like new, never mounted Minox ZA5 3-15x42 that I'd sell for $350. Easily the best glass in that price range with quite nice magnification range. You could also buy one open-box from Cameraland for $379 (where I got mine): http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/minox.pl?page=66020

I'm suprized you are having problems with the Redfield. I bore sighted mine and I didn't have any problems zeroing it in. I would call and talk to redfield about it they probably will send you a new one to replace the one your having trouble with. However you can just get one of the leupold 3x9x40 deer management scopes

The Nikon Monarch rivals any German-made scope on the market. Anything more and your buying on brand name alone.

I've got a Monarch on one of my Tikka's and a Zeiss on the other, both are excellent!

I'm also surprised that you're having problems with the Redfield. In 1975, I bought a Redfield Widefield 6X. It was a great scope then, and it's still a great scope. I use it on my Remington 700 ADL 30-06, and it's dead on.

It doesn't come even close. It's an excellent scope for the money but you get what you pay for. Put a Monarch side-by-side with a Zeiss Victory Diavari 3-12x56 in moonlight and tell me if you can see a difference.

I like Monarchs but there are quite a few in its price range I would rather get.

I agree but we're talking price points and the best you can do even on a Zeiss Conquest is something like these demos around $650 -
http://www.samplelist.com/Zeiss-45-14x44-Conquest-Rifle-Scope-DEMO-B-P1114.aspx

The Diavari's jump to around $999 like these

Redfield is good stuff and has been purchased by leupold.. Surprised it didnt work so well for ya.. Simmons is good quality for the buck as well .. I have an AETEC model and I would consider it one of the best in sub 200$ range..
