How much would a finished lab from a good bloodline run you? Thanks

That's a really hard question to answer as there are so many variables. You're probably looking at 6-8 thousand minimum. You might get lucky and find the right seller at the right time and get one for a little less.

Yeah, that's way open-ended to begin to try to answer...

Ok sorry about that. A lab that will pick up birds and be a good dog. Not a field trial champion or anything like that.

Oh, well heck, that could be a meat dog or a started dog or even a started pup. If all you want is to hunt over it, have it sit steady, go when sent and make marked retrieves, we sell pups 6-7 months old for $1,800.00 to $2,500.00 that can do that. Some of our pups that were whelped last June are hunting this season. Yes, they are young, sloppy and very green, for sure, but they know what to do and they get it done. I figure, if they have the basics down at this young of an age, they can only get better with proper handling and experience. We condition them from birth, which helps them start young. http://ironspikeranch.com/litters.aspxSeriously, if you're just getting started with looking at gun dogs, holler anytime. The trick is knowing what YOU want in a dog and being able to get what you want, not what the seller is wanting to sell. Sounds like you could use a little help with jargon and better understanding the market, training, etc.

If you want a dog that handles (can run blind retrieves) then you're looking to spend more than what she stated above.

That description I gave does specifically states "marked" retrieves for the reason kbobb said. Once you get into blinds, casting, running lines, that's a whole new ball of wax. That's more like a finished dog, depending on how far along s/he is trained. What most folks do with our pups, anyway, is get some hunts in their first year and work on the basics, then put some added training on them before the next season so they can start on blinds.

Ok this is good information. I want a good dog for hunting and to be a good dog around the house. I will probably start looking serious june to september. I want a female. My brother and law has a great male dog from the Roux blood line that I would eventually like to breed it to. That is why I'm asking because I am big hunter but no experience in dog training plus honestly I don't have the time to spend to get it started the way I'd like.

See if you can open this. It is a picture of him. The dog is absolutely beautiful. He has had numerous offers on this dog. He wouldn't sell it though. Copy and PAste and see if it works.

If this is the same guy I've talked to on the phone, based on the bits & pieces I got, it's Cajun Roux.
