I just went to the range and shot three types off ammo in 130 and 150 grain but they all shoot pretty good? I would like your opinion?

This one is 130 grain winchester super X in the gray box.

This one is 130 grain winchester ballistic tip supreme in the black box.

This one is 150 Federal Premium vital shok.

So what do yall think?

I didn't vote because ANY of that ammo is PLENTY good enough! Looks like most of those hover around an inch-whichever one you like best I'd say go for it!

Now, if you want to talk about bullet performance, that's a whole new world! You have the cheap cup/core, the better, though much maligned ballistic tip, and then the FP vital shock. I tend to shy from the ballistic tips after some problems, but they're still a great bullet.

If it was ME, I'd pick the tougher bullet of the 3 if pigs were involved and possibly short ranges. Many variables...

Is that the orange or blue box Federal? There's a part number like FEC270A or FEP308C on the end of the box.

The federal looks to be smaller, the middle one is stringier, quite a bit more than the inch discussed.

I absolutely hate the winchester ballistic silvertips. I have had quite a few deer run after great shot placements with little to no blood. I have 4 boxes in my cabinet that I refuse to hunt with. The shoot extremely well, but I don't trust their terminal performance.

Any of that ammo is still minute of deer! If you're shooting an unmodified rifle, and don't reload, any of those groups will work. Yes, one is bigger than an inch, but it's still within the general term of 'hovering around an inch'. What I'm getting at is that as long as you're not going to do any extra work to tweak/tune your rifle, that's not bad considering it's all factory stuff!

My experience with Remington Corlokt ammo has surprised me, even though some think it's no good. Out of my .243 and .7-08 it's not unusual to stay right at an inch. I have friends that shoot more and can do better with the same rifles. Both rifles have had triggers done, and the .7-08 is modified well past that point. If I reloaded I'm sure it would be tons better, but let's face it-if it'll hold 2" at a hundred, theoretically that's 4" at 200. Considering the ranges most hunting in Texas happens at, I say don't sweat the small stuff!

Pick which ever one you want. Looks like they all did rather well. Ballisic tips look a little tighter

I voted for the federals because I have shot all those and there is no comparison that the Federals are WAY BETTER than the winchesters. But I highly recommed trying the hornadys Good luck

PD is right on if you are not going to reload or tweak your rifle any of the above will work. I tweak my guns and reload, trigger pulls arould 1.5 pounds, shoot 243, 7 mag and 300 win mag, all will drive tacks at 100 yds, can cover 3 shots with a quarter.

I buy the regular Winchester grey box for my .243 wssm, fairly cheap and group very well. For some reason it won't group the slivertips. Here's 3 pics, the first two shots were touching but low, I moved the adjustments and shot one, in the black. Still I wanted it a little high at 100yrds. Moved it again and shot two, second pict. Then shot two more times and wow. I love my gun.

Hunting is more to me than Antlers on the wall. It's more about the memories you make, and sharing those memories with friends, and family.

I've had good luck with my Ballistic Silver Tips. I shoot a 7mm and use the 140gr. They were recommended when I got the rifle and, honestly, I've never looked at anything else.

I did not vote, but do have a question.

Did it take you 3 shots to drop that buck your holding in the picture??

Having a rifle that prints small groups is fine, having a rifle that every time you bring it to your shoulder and it will put your first shot just exactly where you want it, is better.

Too many folks worry about where that second or third shot/arrow is going to go and if they would concentrate on making the first one do its job there ain't gonna be any need for that back up.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. I would rather have a bullet that shoots 1.5 inch at a 100 yards and performs well on deer, than have one that shoots 1/2 group at a hundred yards but doesn't consistently knock deer down. That is why I have been shooting the old silvertips for so many years. They don't group the best, but they almost always drop the deer where it was standing. On the other hand I tried the ballistic silvertips, and could keep them in a 1/2 group, but I had to track all the deer. Just my 2 cents.

Thank yall so much!!! I agree with both of you and i have made my decision!!! I have noticed that the super x has wonderful knockdown power because, i have killed three deer this year with this ammo out of my friends 7mm-08 and they didn't take a step! Also like yall said, It only takes one shot!!!

I voted for the Federal 150 grain just because that's what I've been shooting for a few years now. Staistics are like political polls; you can make them say whatever you want so I just shoot what I like and hope everyone else does the same.

Funny. I hate Federal Premium vital shok, I think their terminal performance is crap. The Winchester SilverTip's however I just love, always have a great exit wound, droped my 190 pound deer on the spot, dropped my 225 pound hog on the spot, great grouping. I just dont understand how you did not get a blood trail with a silvertip...

I don't understand how you get a good blood trail with the ballistic silvertips. I shot 5 deer with them, and 3 were a b*tch to find. One I only found because I could hear it thrashing around in the leaves. Now the old silvertips are great.
