I took my boys out hunting this weekend and this ram pops out of nowhere. He shot it and I was wondering if someone would help me I.D. this.

never tryed it. We have had alot of hunters kill sheep and only one that I know of took the meat home. But he was giving it to a friend. I have heard it is terrible.

We used to call them "Black Belly" Corsicans. You don't seem to see a lot of them any more with the red upper and the black belly.

That's what we call a "good" sheep. Cause it's dead.

It is a Corsican, I have shot a couple of them and kept the meat. Keep it on the bone, in a cooler of ice water and salt. Refresh the water every day for a few days, it will help draw the blood out and the meat will be 10x better.

The barbados sheep of the Caribbean have a badger/racoon markings on their face and a black belly.
Some where hornless some had horns.
In the 1950's these sheep were crossed with mouflon sheep in order to raise a more interesting shooter.
These sheep are known as Corsican.

My son shot one about 6 years ago at a ranch near Harper. Had the head mounted. Had the outfitter process the meat for us to take home. BIG WASTE of time and money! Was the nastiest, greasy POS. Could not even get my dog to eat the meat (raw & / or cooked). Decided that we were not going sheep hunting again.

Was a guide & hunting lease manager on the WE Allen Ranch outside Junction TX for Hiko outdoors year ago and when ever we had clients on the ranch we would draw short straws at the skinning platform for who had to gut and process the sheep or the antelope our clients had shot! they are F#@king nasty!

Is it normal for the horns to be cropped off like that?
