I kennel trainned ranger and he never pissed in the house. Now all the sudden since his balls dropped all hell has broken and my house. He pisses on everything, acts like a little chit. Completely different dog then I use to have. I am planning on boarding him with a trainer at around 10 months.(Hes 5 months old now.) I just dont wanna do something thazt is going to make him a bad hunting dog but I also cant live like this for much longer without killing him.
THanks for your help.

Neutering him won't hurt his drive, at 5 months old, he's in his "childhood age". His behavior will get better in a few months. Just watch him close and don't let him run loose in the house without close supervision.

Sounds like he just hit a rebellious stage. Young dogs go through it just like teenage kids. I would keep him on a lead and close supervision when he's in the house. If he starts to raise his leg tell him NO and give a tug on the lead. He should figure out marking is only allowed outside. You don't need to be rough on him, just enough to get the message across.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

I would unless you plan on a breeding program. The benifits outweigh the negatives. Much less chance of cancer which they are prone to, easier to train, calmer. You will have to watch his weight.

I have owned hunting dogs literally all of my life, mostly males. I have only nuetered/castrated one male dog to date...That was a black mouth cur that was one of my hog dogs who killed all my other hog dogs and the hog...It kept the fighting down...I have had some that went on chains or in kennels for what you are experiencing..until they matured...
My buddy has all of his nuetered except the last two labs...they got over the urine problems from 9 mos to 1yr..DD

Actually not completly true and actually false in some cancers. I would let the dog develope fully then if you wish to neuter you can go ahead and neuter. Hippies and liberals won't tell you the negatives of neutering a dog before they mature they only tell you the positive. They say "responsible owners" do it meaning that is the only thing that makes then responsible or that people who don't are irresponsible. Yea right

My Shorthair did the same thing about a month ago. Right around 9 months old he decided to lift his leg on my curtians. He also just started lifting his leg outside. I yelled and put him outside immediately. The next day my wife said that she caught him getting ready to lift his leg on my 5 yr old daughter. He's 75 lbs and she said she hurt her hand smacking him. He no longer lifts his leg in our house. I think you just have to watch him and get on him quickly as soon as he starts.

Can't disagree with Swamphunter. What if he is the best dog you ever owned? Then you want to breed him,but can't? Wait to see what he's gonna be first.
