I heard this from a police officer tonight while working in the Emergency Department. Said he had learned that there were more accidental discharged glocks than all other handguns combined.

No such thing as an accidental discharge. Negligence is always involved. Inanimate objects lack the ability to do anything on their own.

Well I accidentally spill a drink, not "negligently tip" it over. To hell with the P.C. lingo is there any validity to the claim. I couldn't find much information on it.

I don't know of anyone who would keep track of something like that especially since most ND's aren't reported to anyone.

I prefer negligent over accidental. Accidental IS the PC way of shifting the blame from yourself to an object so you aren't responsible for your actions.

I've always understood people cause accidents and never saw a shift of blame to an object. Was looking more for a response to the question instead of a critique on my word usage. I've already got a wife for that.

I could see it. Blocks are one of the most popular handguns, and without a thumb safety, so statistically it could be true just because of volume sold.

No accident involved in spilling a drink either. You probably weren't paying attention.

I wonder what incidents are included in the police officer's statement. Only discharges when the pistol is dropped? Finger on the trigger and accidentally fires? Etc. I've owned Glocks for many years and haven't ever dropped one or had an accidental discharge. Accidentally firing with your finger on the trigger would be REALLY rare. On the other hand, if you include that scenario I think the SA pistols would lead the race. You better not put your finger on the trigger of my Colt Defender unless you intend to fire.

Thats just not true with a Glock, there exist an infinite number of conditions that could cause a accidental discharge. Its the main reason I'd never carry one outdoors.

A holster covering the trigger guard is a Glock's primary safety device. I'm not just picking on Glock, this applys to many true defensive handguns without external safeties.

Awareness and responsibility for your weapon are key.

They only go bang when you pull the trigger. Proper gun handling will avoid a "negligent discharge". Negligent- failing to exercise the care expected of a reasonably prudent person in like circumstances. It's an ND, not an AD.

Soooo You heard it from a cop... Well they are not the end all on statistics of firearms. Really not all of them are into guns, some are and are damn good at it. Others couldn't care less.


Anyway, LEOs carry Glocks more than another hand gun. So I'm sure this is why he thinks this.

EVERY ND I've seen or heard about had the trigger pulled by their finger. And I've seen a few. Keep your finger out of the trigger guard until on target, and you will be fine. I've carried and shot Glocks for years without issue (knock on wood!).

I had a Glock that I loved to carry outdoors. I had her in a locking holster and while pushing through some brush she got snagged and ripped out of the holster and one of the twigs was inside the trigger guard with the gun pointing at my abdomen. I considered it a sign and don't tote a Glock anymore for my lifestyle.

No, my Sig doesn't have a safety either but I feel safer with it and thumb snap hammer strap.

So why not a thumb snap strap on a Glock?

What kind of holster? I carry mine in thick brush weekly for years and have never had one even try to come out. I use a Serpa, or a CTAC spartan.


Glocks are very safe provided, you have a good holster. In addition I never put the lighter trigger in a carry glock.

Glock is a good piece. I will say that by the end of a good ten mile hike, I'm leaning to one side toting a 226.

I have yet to see a gun go bang that didnt have something to do with a living breathing beings actions. If you dont believe me than set your Glock on the table and walk away and tell me how many shots are fired with it just siting there.

Is glock not the most produced firearm on the market so of course there will be the most acinegligent discharges

I wonder what the AD (ND) rate is for police officers vs the civilian CHL and legal gun holder population. My take is that when it happens to a police officer, they tend to call it AD, civilian does the same this time it's ND. It's all ND in my book.

When I carry mine in the the woods I don't chamber a round. It doesn't take but a second to to chamber one anyways. I could see if not properly holstered something snagging the trigger and making it fire. I use a over the shoulder holster that puts the pistol up against my left side of my rib cage and holds one mag on that side and two mags one the other side. Clips to my belt on both sides and is very comfortable to wear.

Actually there is probably more ND's with 1911's than every other sidearms combine. It happened so much with a local PD that they stopped approving 1911's for duty weapons. I'm not going to say that all are ND's there are a few accidentals that are gun or ammunition related but almost everything can be traced to the operators inability to work on a weapon, keep it maintained, or lack of training.

2 out of the 3 ND's I have personally witnessed where with 1911's, and all three where negligent. Ohh and the Best ND I ever saw on video was with a 1911, You know the video posted where the guy is talking about and said "after I shot myself training took over and I called my mommy"

Statistically speaking its possible for glock to the #1 firearm involved in a ND going by sheer numbers, but percentage wise I bet its about equal with owners of other brand firearms.

Bottom line is whatever you wanna call it can be avoided by using propper gun safety.

And I think cops, police and all public servents are some of the bravest and most under appreciated folks today but they're people and can be just as full of $#*& as the next guy. Whenever someone tells you somthing(that you or they don't know for an absolute fact) you need to take it with a grain of salt.

I cc a glock so this post is probably biased in itself but I can admit it and am okay with that.

If this is based solely on LEO statistics, then perhaps there is some validity to it. The vast majority of LEOs carry Glocks.
