Is a lay out blind something that has a real need in your duck gear arsenal or it something that not used enough to make it worth getting. If your setting on a flat open shoreline will they work for hiding you enough to draw ducks into range? If its something to get any thought on brand and color.

I think they work very well, I have a Avery Finisher. I have had it about 5 or 6 yrs and no problems.

I got rid of mine. They are a pain in the arse. Settig up, taking down sucks and they hurt my back. I do better throwing some camo netting over me and being done with it.

Im looking for some netting to make a gillie type blanket.Something i can tie natural vegetation on too.I was thinking something like that would help even with a lay out blind. Is there any place around dallas area that sells that type of camo.

i went to joanns fabric and bought 10 yards of brown burlap. Cut a slit in it several feet down from one end so i can cover myself with it and look out the hole. It does not match up perfect with the sand and mud where i have been hunting..but the birds have not seemed to mind. It has gotten pretty muddy and has started to blend a bit better with the ground. I just lay on a foam camp mat to insulate me from the ground, put my head on my backpack.
When the birds come in i just flip it off of me and raise my shotgun. Works well so far and is much lighter than a layout.

Avery makes a good entry level layout that you can check out. I have this one in plain Khaki, I spray painted it a couple a of different shades of flat khaki when I got it a couple of years ago and have been muddying it up ever since. I wonder if anyone has patented a "Reservoir Mud" pattern? Anyway, the blind is lightweight for walk in hunting. The only downside is the size, it fits me like a sausage casing. Rogers has it on sale for $129 http://www.rogerssportinggoods.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1625

Own two. Only way I hunt.

It's a must have for me. Mainly hunt out of them. Might be tough if you walk in but not if you have a boat. If you walk in they make some that are fairly light weight.

I love using them on open banks. I've had duck come in to within 6 feet of my blind. I have the Avery Finisher:

Some before and after of my layout before a hunt. How can you beat this? You are closer and more hidden in these things. One of the best things I've added to my hunting inventory.
